Aurora tonight!
I just got this e-mail from the Unoversity of Alaska

"As a result of a high speed flow from a solar coronal hole, possibly
aggravated by an interplanetary shock from a solar flare on 19th
August, aurora sightings are expected in the northern sections of the
U.S."

Cool! B-)

1. Thanks!
It's been ages since I last saw it. Hope it reaches as far south as DC.

3. But here in Fairbanks, the Aurora Capital of the World -
it's overcast and raining, so we won't see it. Plus you still have to stay up really late - the sun is still up late. For today:

Sunset 9:50 p.m.
End civil twilight 10:51 p.m.

After twilight, the transit for complete darkness is about 45 minutes.............

So unless you're a nightowl, wait till December when you can see 'em at 4 pm!

Backyard viewing~

It really is on my to-do list to take you up on that...as long as you take me for a putt on the bike :D

7. If you're here during the best viewing time for the Lights -
it'll be WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too cold for a putt on the bike! So you'll just have to make the trip twice!

My recommendation for the lights is usually December and January to early February - from Chena Hot Springs Resort, where we can loll in the outdoor hot springs (yes, even at 30 below) and watch the lights dance overhead! On that trip, it'll have to be a dog sled ride, but that's fun, too.

'Cmon up and I'll take you to the Savage River on the bike in the middle of June. About 40 miles from Denali (Mt. McKinley).....
