Wandering around the state fair today

my friend and I noticed that the booths for the various branches of the military were pretty much empty - except for the service personel working them...Last year they were full of gullible young ones.

is there a new food craze this year? I know last year they had those deep fried candy bars and that ice cream that was kept cold with nitrogen...that was really good!

I always made a point of seeking out his booth at the Fair. Guess I'll have to be satisfied with visiting the DFL booth. *sigh* :-(

Pulled out of MN State Fair about 5 years ago.

I really miss it. Especially the church-sponsored food halls. Soooooo much good food for so little money!

(joking) We were the two middle-aged women with the two whiney teenage girls - they were getting tired - (you should have seen their faces when we told them our personal best at the fair was 13 hours and we wanted to beat that record). As it was, we only made it six hours. Took the bus in from the Mall of America, I'll never drive to the state fair again.

Seriously, you could have found me at any Pronto Pup, mini donut, Sweet Martha's Cookies, cheese curd, or fried candy bar stand. Or scamming as much free stuff as possible in the education building. (You could also have recongnized us by our WCCO bags.) The only bad thing about going the first day is that only one butter head is carved. It was the first time my niece had been to the fair and she just didn't get the full effect seeing only one dairy princess carved out of butter.

we ran into the daughter of one of my sister's students working the pro-life booth in the Grandstand. And then again across the grounds at a foot-long hotdog stand. And then *again* at 50th and France after dinner. Some coincidences are unavoidable.

My sis wanted to get pics of the butter carving -- she said no one in Michigan believes her that we do it. Bet it was comfy in that booth, 38 degrees, dressed in winter gear, while the room was 85+.

You're the expert in free stuff, so where were they giving away the yard sticks, and the twirling things on a stick?
