I got laid off yesterday
I'd been with this non-profit for five years, but there is now an out with the old, in with the new mentality, as they work toward becoming a for profit company. I am simply one of a series of manager lay offs recently.

Apparently a the disabled work force is too limiting for company growth.

It's not such a bad thing. I was really starting to hate the place (although I really liked a lot of my co-workers). The CEO is a right wing nazi with a picture of the great leader on her desk. She was the master of the snotty e-mail.

Incidentally, this happened on the same day the Shrub was in town (Portland). Coincidence? I think not. :tinfoilhat:

I guess I'll be applying for unemployment on Monday.

1. oh no!
That always bums me out to hear, to say the least. Good luck finding a new job, I'm sure you'll get one eventually. It's Shrub's fault if you don't! :(

Also good luck applying for unemployment, we're here if you need to vent.

3. Tell me about it
But I've got some connections out there, so I'm not worried. At the very least, I have some income. I've been teaching part time for the community college for years.

4. Oh, that's good.
At least you have something. Any hope for teaching full-time?

5. There's always hope
But the job market sucks. I applied for one of the three open positions at my community college last spring, and I thought I would at least get an interview, but no such luck. I heard there were hundreds of apps for each position. I may be able to pick up a few classes at other colleges though, just to keep food on the table.
