Of course we have taxes on a level unknown in the US and 95 octane gas minimum. But it hurt after the Euro-introduction. It took the price only a few months to reach the last DeutschMark amount in Euro; doubling the real price.
If the price is raised without a reason (like a new well-founded tax, a thing not responsible for the latest development here) then the average customer is being ripped off. And we have far shorter distances, excellent public transportation and efficient cars.
i moved up from a 30mpg economy car with a 12 gal. gas tank 6 months ago, to a 20 mpg small p/u truck with a 20 gal. tank just in time to see gas prices go up 40 cents per gal. kinda negated the fact my payments went down 50 bucks a month. :(
