The songs that really touch you
Which ones, no matter how many times you hear them, make you say "Wow", or make you FEEL?

For me:

A Case of You - Joni Mitchell
Forever Autumn - Justin Hayward
Coming Up Close - Aimee Mann

5. That's a good one
Not too many months ago, in the midst of a deep depression, that song touched my heart--over and over again.

9. Another Joni Mitchell song
RIVER

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
But it don't snow here
It stays pretty green
I'm going to make a lot of money
Then I'm going to quit this crazy scene
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby cry

He tried hard to help me
You know, he put me at ease
And he loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I'm so hard to handle
I'm selfish and I'm sad
Now I've gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I made my baby say goodbye

It's coming on Christmas
They're cutting down trees
They're putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on

12. "Comes a Time" the Grateful Dead
"Comes a time
When a blind man takes your hand
And says, 'Don't you see?'

, , ,

Don't give up,
You've got an empty cup
That only love can fill,
Only love can fill."

14. That stupid "Butterfly Kisses" song.
I don't know why, but even thinking about it makes me start blubbering like a baby. And I don't even like the song in the first place...

<blinking back tears as she's typing>... ARRRRGH! :nuke:

16. "Ill Take the Rain" by R.E.M.
A really beautiful song about the importance of optimism.

Also "Wise Up" by Aimee Mann and the late, great Ray Charles' version of "America the Beautiful".

17. In the Arms of an Angel
..............

So tired of the straight line, and everywhere you turn
There's vultures and thieves at your back
The storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies
That you make up for all that you lack
It don't make no difference, escaping one last time
It's easier to believe
In this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees

In the arms of an Angel, far away from here
From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear
You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
In the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here

18. and another
It is from the Musical "Secret Garden". If you like musical theater but don't know Secret Garden, please get it and listen.

This song is sung by the Ghost of Lilly to her husband who has never recovered from losing her.

HOW COULD I EVER KNOW

LILY
How could I know I would have to leave you
How could I know I would hurt you so
You were the one I was born to love
Oh, how could I ever know
How could I ever know

How can I say to go on without me
How, when I know you still need me so
How can I say not to dream about me
How could I ever know
How could I ever know

Forgive me
Can you forgive me
And hold me in your heart
And find some new way to love me
Now that we're apart

How could I know I would never hold you
Never again in this world
But oh, sure as you breathe
I am there inside you
How could I ever know
How could I ever know

ARCHIBALD
How can I hope to go on without you
How can I know where you'd have me go
How can I bear not to dream about you
Oh, how can I let you go

LILY
How could I ever know

ARCHIBALD
All I need is

LILY
Is there in the garden

ARCHIE
All I would ask is

LILY
Is care for the child of

ARCHIBALD
Our love

LILY
Come, go with me
Safe I will keep you

ARCHIBALD
Where you would lead me
There I would

LILY
There I would, there we would

LILY AND ARCHIBALD
There we will go
How, how could I know
Tell me, how, how could I know
Ever to know you will never leave me
How could we know
How could I ever know
