Civic or Corolla??
I'm asking everyone I know and now many people I don't know.

I'm leaning toward the Civic because of the great offer they have for the rest of June.

Anyone have any strong feelings either way.

1. Civic

I am a fan of Hondas. Corollas are good cars, too.

Good luck in which ever you choose.

3. They're both good cars.
I had a civic, and it was a great car. Now I drive a Camry, which is a great car too. I would probably go with the Honda if they are offering the better deal.

4. I have a Corolla
for 3 years now. It is a 1998 and I bought it used. Get about 34 miles per gallon and only had one problem (covered by warranty).

I think they are a bit cheaper and they also cost less in insurance than a civic.

5. We've had 2 Corrollas.
Both made it almost 200,000 miles. One was a '77 and my husband had it until '97 (bought used in the 80's). It was Smurf blue too ("The Smurfmobile" LOL). Cute old car. The other was a '91 and just died last year. It probably could have made it longer, but was a bit neglected at the end.

20. I got 100,000+ miles with the original clutch
on my first Civic, a 93. It was a red hatchback. I loved that car.

9. Love my Corolla -- a few words on it.
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 07:54 PM by WillyBrandt
The thing handles great, gets good mileage, and the new ones -- the 2003 and above -- are restyled and look fantastic. The Civic, while no doubt a fine car, isn't as good looking in my view.

It's not a sports car, and the pick up to 80+ mph isn't instant. But at high speeds--up to 85 and (I've found 90 too), especially if your wheels are balanced--the thing just handles nice and smooth. Its a lovely ride.

The Corolla has been around forever, and the kinks have been figured out. For what it is, and for all the embellishments that are sure to come, the car is reasonably perfected.

Not only that, but the fact that it's an old model of car AND that it's from Toyota means IT IS CHEAP TO FIX. Spare parts, mechanics who can fix them, etc. are very easy to come by. This is somewhat unusual for a foreign car, but the Toyota is such a ubiquitous car (isn't it the best selilng ever or something?) that getting it fixed up is easy. From what I was told, the same isn't true of the Civic.

I'm saying this, frankly, as a partisan Corolla owner who wants to buy a nice solid car in 2002 and basically keep it forever without any worries. My uncle, a car fixing guy, told me about the spare parts thing. This is just my opinion, and I don't have particular expertise on the civic, but I really think the Corolla is a better buy.

I plan on driving my Corolla to 300k+ miles... so there it is.

10. Civic
I have one and I reckon it's great.

It's very fuel efficient and I've never had any mechanical trouble with it.

11. Toyota ages better
Both are fine cars, but I think Toyotas wear their age a little better.

Check out the Prius. Its only about three grand more and you can still get a big tax deduction. It'll pay for itself. I know my next car will be a hybrid (or hydrogen, if my '95 Honda holds out that long!).

12. corolla
i had a corolla and it was like a toy. the gas mileage was great and it ran like a top. the civics are nice although i have never owned one. i don't like the "sitting in the bathtub" feeling i get when i sit in a civic. i recently looked at both vehicles myself but i ended up buying a saturn.

13. Saturns are pure crap
All plastic.

Don't run 'em through the touchless car wash...

Saturn's warranty is a joke too - that helps explain the following:

Search the internet using key words "Saturn" and "sucks". Lots of forums with lots of people who, unlike those seen in those commercials, who aren't happy at all...

Lots of complaints about the engine snuffing it at low miles too.

19. this is true
but i could afford the saturn. down the road i will get what i paid for but right now the saturn is a better deal. this is my third saturn and with the previous two i vowed i would never drive another one; but, sometimes you have to make a deal with the devil.

15. Interesting you should ask
I just made that decision yesterday.

I came home with a Civic. I thought highly of both, but found the Civic a bit more roomy. Almost the exact same price.

17. Civic
I've owned both and my Hondas always seemed to have more pep. Gas mileage is probably quite similar. They are both great cars, so you can't really go wrong. A Civic hybrid is my dream car.

But, you can't go wrong with the Toyota, either. I love Civics. I think they look better and age better, but that's personal taste.

21. Don't overlook Mazda
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 08:59 PM by ProudGerman
They have fabulous engineers and the know how to build an engine. Hell, they can take a Ford engine and make it worth a damn (and basically make it an all new engine with the re-engineering they've put into them, heh)

You won't find a small, entry level car that handles better than a Mazda. Search the internet and watch videos of drivers taking a stock Protege and getting close to Corvette numbers in the 600 ft slalom.

somewhat better, so at least for the 89 vintage the Honda is the better car.

I'll continue to do some research, test drive both, compare the deals and then do what my wife tells me.
