Tonight: THE SOUL EXPRESS remembers Ray Charles.

This week, I'll be dedicating all three hours of my college radio show, THE SOUL EXPRESS, to Brother Ray. I plan to cover about 20 years of the man's recording career, from the early 1950s - early 1970s. You can expect to hear all the classic hits, along with some forgotten chart singles, album tracks, and B-sides.

THE SOUL EXPRESS airs from 9:00-midnight Eastern U.S. Time on Saturdays. To hear the show, either tune your FM dial to 91.7, WHUS (if you live in certain parts of Southern New Englad), or log onto the webcast at http://whus.org/listen.htm

I've barely heard any of Ray Charles' songs, and this is really just a treat. I'm reading some books for work right now, and listening to this--before heading out a little later tonight to the City--and it's great.

I didn't curse or violate FCC regs in any other way. And unlike far too many other stations, the good folks at WHUS won't give you a hard one about merely expressing an opinion on the air!

Ray Charles is without equal in the unique genre he encompassed, and in the body of work he leaves us. He is the soul of 4 generations, and I love him dearly.

Thanks for the fantastic music. This is just too damn good. I've never heard some of these songs before. Way too cool. Truly a pioneer. I hope I won't be thought a philistine if I like Ray better than James Brown. (God, did I really say that?)

On Edit: I wonder if Ray played "Them That's Got" at Reagan's Inauguration?
