Gateway nightmare, anyone else? (profanity warning >;-( )
Six-month old monitor just went out, and I have been on the phone with customer service and tech support all night. Finally, after eight hours, I just said, "Fuck it" and went to Wallyworld and bought a new monitor.

I fucking HATE Gateway. It has REALLY gone downhill in the past five years. And I hate that Jennifer jerk who attempts to pacify angry customers. Fuck you, Jennifer, you pathetic Gateway slut! (In my best Dan Akroyd voice.)

GRRRRRRRRR.....I hate Gateway. Never buy a computer from them. Front end service (the selling part) is GREAT. Just pray that you never have a problem with your hardware, because customer service SUCKS.

So, do you have a Gateway nightmare?

2. Gateway has always been famous for shitty monitors
I remember one time a co-worker had a new Gateway computer and the monitor started smoking! Only a month old, too.

Dell is much better. I've never had a problem with my Dells at work or at home.

3. Gateway is wierd.
I never had problems supporting most manufacturers regarding memory upgrades...
but with Gateway, you never know for sure the components are uniform throughout a production run... this is the only manufacturer that requires you to log in with the SER # of the machine, so you can upgrade the memory.

I wonder how long they will continue to keep going.

Apple, anyone?

4. I've had two gateways
and my son owned a third (a laptop). We had excellent customer service for the first one but when the ethernet card went out and hard drive got corrupted because of an incompatibility problem between Norton and Windows customer support was absolutely useless. (So was Microsoft btw)

My son went with a Dell after his laptop got stepped on in a hotel room. He's very happy with the Dell.

5. Better than Dell
We have had all kinds of problems with Dells here at our law firm. Their customer service was similar to what you say about Gateway. We have gone to Gateway's now and have had no problems for over 6 months. If you have monitor problems from Gateway I would suggest you customize and get a View Sonic monitor through Gateway. They are great, flat screens that we love.

6. Nah, I won't ever buy a monitor that I have to ship back for service...
when shipping costs damn near as much as the monitor, and when repair costs will be billed on an open ended credit card account number.

If you've had no problems YET with your gateways, then you have had no opportunity to experience shit from Gateway. Just wait.

7. Dell has horribe crap customer service
They keep you on the phone for days! And the best part. They have someone call you weeks later to rate the service..like they care so much. It's all show and no go.
Never ever again.

8. when I had a Gateway about ten years ago . . .
their service was excellent . . . of course, it was still locate stateside in those days . . . I had many occasions to call tech support, always got through, and received great service . . . I now have a Dell, and I can't speak about their tech support because I've never had to use it (knock wood) . . .
