Any Andrew Vachss fans here besides me and NightTrain? He's got a new one
out, "Down Here," with Burke fully back in New York with his family. Wolfe's been arrested for murder, and Burke has to clear her. Hopefully we're back from the Burke vs the World Crime League silliness that the series had degenerated to lately. I've got it out from the library for just a week, but as I get through his books on average in about 36 hours, don't expect that this is likely to be a big problem. For more on this scintillating writer and his crusade against sexual abuse of children, go here: http://www.vachss.com/

1. I like vachss but after a few years, his stories were really all the same
but, his endeavor is massive, important and impressive.

Had the chance to speak with him back in the day, at length about some issues, and he's a good, down to earth man.

3. Well, the problem was more when they stopped being the same

especially the last one, which turned on the idea that teenagers are all excited about movies since IMDB is popular. But yeah, the bad guys and issues are all roughly the same. The big issue is the underlying theme of the love for and from his family of choice, and that was lost when Burke headed west. Now he's home, they're back, and I can hardly stop reading.

2. Been reading him for years
An annual quick popcorn read. Though after a while the books begin to blur into one another. I'm glad he brought Burke back to New York and his old crew.

5. I buy Vachss' books when they come out in paperback.
Consequently, the most recent one I've read is last year's ONLY CHILD, in which a New York mobster hires Burke to find out who killed his teen-aged daughter. In all likelihood, I'll grab DOWN HERE some time next year.

8. I can't buy 'em or I'd never stop reading them
They do tend to darken one's outlook a bit, and mine is quite dark enough without constant Vachssination. (Hey! I coined one!)

7. Thanks for posting. I'll reserve it at the library.

Just found out today that there's a new Janet Evanovich book out soon. Learning about a new Evanovich and a new Vachss in one day is great. They're totally different, but two of my favorite fiction writers.
