I just read a Will Pitt post for the first time ever

And if he's your favorite writer, God love you. Enjoy. Like what you like. I'm not flaming it or you. But I have to say - idoan geddit. I have no idea why people read his shit. Am I the only one?

I like some of what Will writes. (His essay about the Republicans vs. FDR is really excellent.) A lot of his stuff, though, doesn't really turn me on. Personal preference, I guess.

What kills me is that as he gets more and more busy, his posts are getting shorter, and they are usually something along the lines of: "I took a dump this morning, and it was satisfying, brown and robust." And then something like 55 people will post in response, cheering wildly about it. I don't get that at all. Must be some sort of DU cult.

ON EDIT: Now that I see your other posts similar to this one, I see you're kidding. I never have understood the "repetition thread" thing in the Lounge, either. Must be another DU cult.

I and several others posted on a John Walker Lindh thread that we didn't think a 20 year old who went overseas to join Al Qaeda really deserves that much sympathy and we got

--you must be an idiot for believing the RW media (I don't btw).
--the atrocities in Afgahinistan were much worse than at Abu Ghraib so my "gag reflex" must be no better than a maggot's.
--"was I there?" that I knew so much about Mr. Lindh's actions and intentions.
--and the general thrust was that anybody who picks up a rifle and hates "Amerika" can't be all bad (unless you're a right wing terrorist who picks up a rifle and hates America, in which case you're Timothy McVie).

This vitriol was directed at me, who THAT VERY DAY had attended a public peace protest in my hard right wing midwestern town--so I'm not exactly Rush effing Limbaugh.

I have the utmost respect for Will Pitt. He wrote a bestselling book. Did any of his critics write a book? I invariably enjoy his posts and seek them out.

If I didn't like his posts, I wouldn't be so mean-spirited as to start a FUCKING thread on it.

I think I'm going to have to take a little vacation from DU for awhile in the hopes that a few people can grow up in the interim and try to remember that this website is to BASH THE RIGHT WING NOT EACH OTHER.

Jeez, no wonder they're kicking our ass every election . . .
