i.e., a precursor.
Disco turned a whole generation of brains to mush so that they were easily molded by Reagan's evil. The rest is, as they say, history.

OK, so this is tounge in cheek. Actually, to paraphrase Abraham Lincoln:

For those who like this kind of CRAP,
this is the kind of CRAP they will like.

61. Rock and Roll of that time...
was really crappy, at least until Punk and New Wave came along. Mid-70's Rock certainly wasn't making anyone smarter. Although there was some interesting jazz/fusion in the early 70's. (IMHO...)

I always thought that straight men hated disco because they identified it as "gay" or "black." Personally, I preferred Punk, but liked going to gay male clubs so I could dance and have fun without being bothered.

66. There is a lot of crap in any genre of music
A lot of my put down of Disco is, as I said, tounge in cheek.

I don't care for it, but that's just me. But I do think that a lot of it was rather insipid.

I think we also tend to associate music of the past with events or other memories - very personal.

67. Yes, I do agree with you...
I absolutely *hated* the BeeGees and most of the other non-funky disco. I used to lobby the D.J.'s in the gay clubs to "Pleeeeze" play some funky or punky dance music like George Clinton or Sylvester, or, even Billy Idol (even though he was a poser).

Nonetheless, I loved to dance so I would settle for just about any disco they played as long as it wasn't the BeeGees or "Billy Jean."

Besides Punk, it was really The Blasters and Los Lobos that made Rock fun and interesting again. (Again, IMHO...)

29. Soft'n'Wet ~ Prince.......
Hey, lover, I got a sugarcane
That I wanna lose in you,
Baby can you stand the pain
Hey, lover, sugar don't you see?
There's so many things that you do to me
Ooo baby!
All I wanna see is the love in your eyes (hey, lover)
And all I wanna hear is your sweet love sighs
All I wanna feel is burning flames (hey, lover)
Tell me, tell me, baby, that U feel the same
Tell me that U feel the same way I do
Tell me that U love me too

U feel so wrong, be alone, if u just follow somebody someday]

Soft and wet
Soft and wet

Soft and wet
Soft and wet

Every time I'm with you, you just love me to death
Ooo weee, baby. you leave me without...
Breath! Ooo, baby! Oooo, yeah

You're just as soft as a lion tamed
You're just as wet as the evening rain
How will I take it when you call my name?

Your love is driving me...
you're driving me insane
Crazy, baby
Crazy 'bout your love

Soft and wet (U know)
You are soft and wet (Oh, sugar)
Your love is soft and wet
Soft and wet

Ooooh Oooooh Oooooh :-P~~~~

46. Night Fever and Jive Talking. Runner up: Heart of Glass
The BeeGees get blamed for starting the disco craze, but what's missed is that if everyone had done it as well as them, it might have been listenable. There's a wide gap between their work and the repetitive electronic noise that tried to follow them.

Well, that's my opinion. No one likes my opinions, but I give them anyway. Sad, huh?

49. "Cherchez La Femme" - Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band
Edited on Fri Jun-18-04 11:39 PM by oxymoron
Tommy Mottola lives on the road
He lost his lady two months ago
Maybe he'll find her, maybe he won't
Oh, wonder, nooo
He sleeps in the back of his grey Cadillac, oh my honey
Blowing his mind on cheap grass and wine
Oh ain't it crazy baby, hey
Guess you could say hey, hey
This man has learned his lesson, oh hey
Now he's alone
He's got no woman and no home
For misery, oh, oh
Cherchez la femme

Miggie, Miggie Bonija's very upset
She's sick and tired of living in debt
Tired of roaches and tired of rats, I know she is oooh
So her noble man says
"Baby I understand, oh my honey"
Now he's working two jobs at Eighth Avenue bars
Oh ain't crazy baby
Now she complains
That her man is never present, no
She goes next door, I know that she's just playing the whore
Hey for misery my friend, hey
Cherchez la femme

(Instrumental break)

They'll tell you a lie with a colgate smile, hey baby
Love you one second and hate you the next one
Oh ain't it crazy, yeah
All I can say, ay, hey, of one thing I am certain, ooh, ooh
They're all the same, all the sluts and the saints
For misery my friend
Cherchez la femme

Hey now, Cherchez la femme (ooh)
Oh babe, Cherchez la femme (ooh)
Yeah, Cherchez la femme (ooh)
Oooh that's amora, Cherchez
Oooh that's amora, Cherchez
Amora amora be mine, be mine
Devine! (Oooh that's amora, Cherchez)
Cherchez la femme
(Se si bon, Se si bon, Se si bon)
Cherchez la femme, rumba
(Se si bon, Se si bon, Se si bon)
Cherchez la femme, rumba

(Repeat and fade)

72. "Tear The Roof Off The Sucker" by Parliament?
Edited on Sat Jun-19-04 11:08 PM by mahatmakanejeeves
Are you perhaps thinking of "Tear The Roof Off The Sucker" by Parliament? One of the lines is "We're gonna turn this mother out."

Lyrics:

Great tune on a great album, "Mothership Connection."

Edited to add this comment from an obscure article:

This situation went into “urge overdrive” with release of Parliament’s Mothership Connection in early 1976. This landmark Funk masterpiece would earn P-Funk their first platinum album as well as their first million selling single “Tear The Roof Off The Sucker.” Within two years, they would become the biggest black touring attraction in the U.S.

78. I love Parliament/Funkadelic/George Clinton...
And "Tear The Roof...," but I do recall the line, "Burn the mutha down," being in Disco Inferno, although it isn't emphasized vocally.

Through the miracle of the Internet, I found a link:

I'm actually a little embarrassed that I even remember it, when I can barely remember where I left my car keys...

73. Is there a disco version of John Cage's 4'33"?
I think I'd like that.

77. There was, but...
the performer was sued for copyright infringement. All the copies of the recording were destroyed. I have heard that there are bootleg copies out there somewhere.

74. "I Feel Love" by Donna Summer
For the disbelievers:

When disco was bad, it was awful. When it was good, it was great.

Let me direct your attention to this wonderful article, "Bad Songs... They Say So Much. The Worst Musical Refuse of the 70s." The songs are overwhelmingly not disco.

http://www.furious.com/perfect/badsongs.html

The article is in the delightfully named "Perfect Sound Forever." The name mocks the most sacred tenets of the CD Hoax. But that's another story.

79. I have the vinyl single of "Atomic Dog"
and I love it, but, unfortunately, I never heard it played in any disco clubs I frequented. (I would have been thrilled!) It was WAY too funky.
