Am I weird for liking tofu?
I started eating the stuff a few months ago and I have come to like it. High in protein, little fat and you can do just about anything with it. Hunting around for some new ways to cook it. Firm and extra firm are best. I don't like the 'silken' stuff. Chime in folks!

I just don't make it a habit like I used to. As far as steak is concerned, steak is not steak unless it is grilled. Marinated in a spicey mix and cooked until medium. Oh yes! Anything else is charred animal flesh.

8. love tofu. absolute have cravings for the stuff.
i love the fermented tofu (the yellow wrinkly type), the silken stuff (great with ground garlic, soy sauce, and green onions), and regular cloth (firm) type. i love it as inari sushi, i love it braised in stews, i love it pressed as nuggets, i love it in a box, i love it with a fox...

in fact i love it plain too. particular firm stuff has a distinct flavor and different countries have slight different preparation styles. right now i dig the vietmanese style for plain eating. i can get 4 huge blocks for a $1 (around 2 pounds+) so i try to overstock on the stuff.

and i also love a good hamburger or plate of ribs. nothing like a steak from kansas, best steaks *ever*. and nothing like a plate of ribs soul style. polish it off with some sweet potato pie and corn bread and i'm good to go.

i'm an equal opportunity eater. thank god for california. i am for want of nothing in terms of food.

ps: anyone else get sushi cravings? heck i've had pickled ginger and wasabi cravings. used to eat plates of that stuff. mmm, horseradish and ginger... and tofu - yumm!

13. Tofu, sushi.
Good sushi bars are few and far between in Maine. There is a good one in Freeport. Start with a vegtable tempura, some miso soup and then your sushi. Good stuff!

15. I like to fry it up in some peanut or canola oil
Once it has browned up a little place it on napkins to soak up the excess oil. This has helped me lose a great deal of weight on a low-carb diet and has kept me away from too much red meat. It also is a more environmentally friendly food. The stuff rules!

A Vietnamese restaurant near my place makes a deep-fried tofu in sweet/sour sauce that is to die for.

Substitute it for chicken in any stir fry. I did this when I lived with an Eastern Orthodox roommate who had to be vegan during Lent.

stir fried with broccoli (that's steamed first), minced garlic and just a little bit of soy sauce.

You can also slice it, bread it in breadcrumbs with spices like cayenne pepper & tumeric & garlic mized in, then bake it and use in sandwiches

I'm a meat eater who likes tofu. It's one of those things that is really best fresh, so if you are so inclined, you might try making it... although you run the risk of getting spoiled... soymilk too, when it is really fresh is good in a way you can't experience with store-bought.

21. I did a tofu stir fry just last night.
I usually like to deep fry it, then stir fry it with veggies, etc. But I'm trying to cut the fat, so ... deep frying first is da bomb.
