Winows ME is the worst operating system ever created
I cannot believe the hell it has put me through to try to get my father in law's computer upgraded to XP.

2. As an IT professional I can attest
You are absolutely 100% correct.

There are more bugs in that OS than in an Indiana Jones movie.
Upgrade to 2000 or downgrade to 98. Trust me, you will not be sorry.

4. The users of ME should put up a class action lawsuit
MS shouldn't get away with selling broken goods.

6. check out red hat, fedora, or mandrake linux
My recommendation is to check their sites first and determine that all of your hardware is supported. Like me, I went to some laptops for linux website aqnd got a fully compatible laptop with red hat on it. It kicks ass. You get used to (and enjoy) the command.

9. I'm 100% into Mac OSX
but anything that brings Microsoft down I'll support. Microsoft is unAmerican--mediocre software, mediocre support, no competition. Bleh.

16. stifling innovation indeed
If you read the judge's decision, in the original lawsuit back in the 90's, he was right on. MS's anticompetitive practices stifle innovation.

And here we have a virus or worm a month, which requires that you download a patch. Know how many viruses or worms there have been in linux? Zero (that have been effective enough to cause damage). It's all about good design, and the fact that the code is open source: the authors of linux found the flaws before the hackers because of the open source design.

7. and then the next thing you know....
he'll get the Sasser virus, which is still around by the way. And then IF YOU DON'T HAVE A REGISTERED VERSION of XP, you can't install MS's patch, with any effectiveness.

17. well the problem with the upgrade is that...
ME was built on top of 98 code (I think I've heard), and XP isn't.

12. I never had a problem using ME.
Upgrading from any of the win 9.x versions to XP isn't recommended though. Even though MS says you can do it you shouldn't.

13. The problem is mostly with processor speed
Some of the slower, older ones can't handle XP.

Besides, I'm an advocate of the clean install. Reformat the hard drive - it'll get rid of all the excess crap and make it more efficient.

Be sure to backup anything important, though.

BTW: XP is the best OS Microshaft ever created.

14. What is it about Windows ME that is bad? I've been using it
problem free. My computer is fast and never gives me any trouble.

So I was wondering what it is about Windows ME that makes so many people hate it.

15. My computer got to the point
Where it took almost 10 minutes to boot, into SAFE MODE. It was slow, buggy, crashed (both blue-screen, and individual programs) a LOT. I'm now on 2000 on the same machine and it runs fine.

19. I have ME on my laptop
I upgraded to 2000 with no problems. I then hated 2000 and went back to ME. I prefer 98SE to all of them.

20. Absolutely
In spite of how everybody's favourite target is MS, the truth is that their OSs are generally pretty good. I *love* XP...

But ME was the exception. Garbage from day one. I probably had to reinstall 4 or 5 times while I had it and I was the first in line to get XP when it became available.

25. ME is not an OS, it's a virus!
Gawd, what a piece of SHIT! I upgraded to Win2K after a year of fighting with ME eating my files and shutting itself down for no reason...

It was painless and easy. Perhaps you should have gone to 2K then XP?

I thnik my daughter is still running ME. I dunno, after the 30th time of telling her "look, your stepdad is an IT dude, surely he can turn you on to a copy of 2K or XP" and she didn't do it, I told her I don't wanna hear about your ME virus no more...
