I became one of The Earl's disciples some thirty years ago. I was hooked on Earl's banjo before I ever got hooked on bluegrass. I was listening to Earl & Lester before I ever knew who Bill Monroe was. I hope to meet him and shake his hand (that BLACK BELT RIGHT HAND!) before either one of us dies.

I have been baptized in the FIRE that is Earl's banjo! Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of The Earl!

What is seldom discussed except among the Disciples is that Earl is a mighty fine guitarist as well. His guitar work on tunes from the canon like Preachin' Prayin' Singin' is second to none.

My mother used to listen to something by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs back in the sixties--what records did they have out then? I don't remember much of anything but those names . . .

And indeed we all wept.

That's Lester on the right, inventor of the famous Flatt G-run on guitar, which lives to this day.

.got bunch of his albums and the albums with the kids are my favs,unfortunately they were all cut on that shit 70`s vinyl that self destructed after a few plays dam i wish i had clean vinyls of those albums. kick ass country rock and rock---"T for Texas...T for Tennessee" now if i could get clean vinyls of tracy nelson i`d buy a turntable...

when we booked the Earl Scruggs Review to play at the college I was attending . . . what a great guy . . . and the music he was making during this period was exceptional . . . you can get a really good sampling on this CD; great, great stuff . . . (it's an import, though, so on the expensive side) . . .
