Who on earth actually watches GOLF on TV?
I can see the appeal of playing golf. I cannot see the point of watching it on TV. Why is network TV filled with golf coverage on the weekends? They better not pre-empt the news for this crap.

3. Someone who can't sleep. Golf on television is slumber inducing.
Possibly one of the most boring sports ever...televised!

Who thought putting golf on TV was a good idea?

6. My family does
But then my 13 yr old is pretty good at the game for his age. He just started playing seriously 6 months ago and is already competing in tournaments. I have to admit it is slow, but if my kid is willing to turn off the video games and sit with me on the couch, I am willing to watch golf. We have the US Open on now.

9. I guess I'm one of the "oddballs"
I've been watching it all day. It's been very riveting TV, honestly. But, you probably have to be a golf fan to think so. I don't begrudge anyone who thinks it's boring.

11. My grandfather!
It's usually on whenever I visit (poor Grandma!) Bless his heart, though...he always tries to load me up with his golf magazines before I leave. My grandmother and I trade magazines, and it almost never fails...Grandand: "I've got a whole stack of golf magazines here that you're welcome to take." (wink, wink) Me: "No thanks, grandad! I'll just stick with these Vanity Fairs and Peoples."

I love my grandad but I will never understand his obsession with golf!

12. Me.
I play golf and sometimes I get pointers from watching how the pros play certain shots. I don't find it boring at all.

Baseball on TV... Now, that's dull. I'd much rather be at the park.

15. I LOVE golf t.v.
It's sort of like watching the America's Cup though. You have to understand the sport to appreciate it.

Baseball, on the other hand, boooooorrrrrring!

16. I watch from time to time.
Those of us that play are interested in those that compete at the highest level, much like someone who plays pool might want to watch professionals play. It's not for everyone, I agree. But, this week is one of the world's largest tournaments (The US Open), so it will get more coverage than usual.

17. Agreed
It's also fun to see the world's best get humiliated at times on a course like Shinnecock.

I think I read that there are 30-34 hours of coverage. Very unusual, but as you said this is the National Championship.

18. Even if I played golf, I think that watching it on TV would
finally cure my lifelong sleeping difficulties.

Hey, let's have the camera track up to a gray sky and pretend that we can see the ball fly!

:P

20. the one aspect of golf that's fun
to both watch and play - is driving. Everything else that comes after that is just aggrevation.

22. My wonderful, smart, sexy, kind, generous, loving, funny husband
I don't mind a bit as long as I don't have to watch. Much prefer it to football which, fortunately, he watches very infrequently.

As for playing - no doubt many of you think that also would be boring. Well to me it is. To my husband it is an opportunity to turn off the phone and wind down a bit.

I prefer tennis.

24. me
I find it very soothing. And I love to see the way the guys go for their shots. There is something very analytical about it.

And well, I have a thing for Tiger. It's his fault.

26. Thread started by someone with a baseball avatar
Sorry, but I hit the floor in a seizure of laughter when I noticed that.

Baseball is the ultimate in group loitering or organized procrastination. Newspapers assign two reporters to the baseball beat so one can keep the other awake.

No arguing taste, and I'm sometimes too harsh on the DUers who do not appreciate golf. But they bring it upon themselves with flurries of these inane "golf is boring" threads, pure newsgroup masturbation.
