Suggest a rainy night movie rental (please)
It's been raining on and off all day, and it's supposed to continue into the evening. It's getting really dark out too. Isn't this supposed to be the second day of summer? :(

I wanted to go jogging, but it looks like I'll be staying in to stay dry. What should I watch? I was thinking something scary (besides the news, which is always scary of course).

54. The original Japanese "Ringu" is very good also
It's pretty much the same as "The Ring" but with a few slight differences. I think the back story is explored a bit more in the Japanese version, and Sadako frightened me more than Samara.

3. "Carnival of Souls" that is pretty scary...
or go scary-sad with "Son of Kong"
or go real scary sad with "Day of the Locust"...
Got a good video store nearby...check out "The Sadist" starring Arch Hall Jr. That one was really scary and ahead of it's time...
Howzabout "Targets" (1968) Karloff's last decent film...not a horror flick per se but scary nonetheless.

4. The 1963 version of "The Haunting" is good and creepy...
So is "Wait Until Dark". Then there's classics like "Rosemary's Baby" and "The Exorcist". But the best recent horror movie I've seen is "28 Days Later" which is definitely worth a rental...

23. Oh please.....
I got my money back from the rental place on this one.
The script was weak, plot was right out of every cheap 60's-70's zombie movie ever made, the acting was juvinile.
I only wish I could get a refund on the 2 hours of my life I wasted.

Nothing personal though. :)

45. The collapse of civilization is always creepy...
Dawn of the Dead being the best of Romero's "zombie" movies...the undead are scary enough but the TV broadcasts that underscore the collapse of society...YIPES!
The Crazies is also good...not Romero's best but pretty scary all told.
Go for a classic I say "The Omega Man"...Charlton Heston is the loudest, self pitying-est, and lastest man on earth...til Rosalind Cash shows up to show him sunday from monday!

The funniest slash and gore zombie flick ever made. Evil Dead pales in comparison.

But if you want something to really creep you out... Audition. Japanese psycho horror flick. You will never be able to hear here kitty kitty kitty the same way again.

37. There is this scene in Audition (spoiler)
That for my money is a master piece shot. Its when the guy has been struggling with whether he should call her and finally does. The shot is of her in the empty apartment with her hunched over like some discarded thing. Hair hanging down in her face. The phone visible in the back ground as well as some sort of sack. The phone rings and you can see her face begin to smile. That smile is perhaps the most evil thing I have even scene on the screen.

As long as we are on a Carpenter angle. I love the way Carpenter draws us into a seemingly normal world and then quickly shifts the tables on us. A great independent director.

and not what you'd expect at all (the title seems commercial and there is no sex in it really at all)

I just watched "Stone Reader" which is a great film for book lovers and I am now watching In America which is bittersweet and a wonderful NY story for immigrant irish artist/writer family struggling in modern day NYC.

lotsa good stuff out there.

for creepy O realy love Jacob's ladder (Tim Robbins creepy Vietnam PTSD thriller)

and the dance and party freak show???

sOME OF THE CREEPIEST SHIT i HAVE EVER SEEN IN A FILM.

reminds me that FLATLINERS is a GREAT film.

I watched Jacob's Ladder (and I knew his girlfriend Jezebal in the film liz pena from the theater I worked at in the early '90's) the night beforte I took my kids to see Embedded in NYC (Robbins play)

We talked about it briefly afterward when he came out to meet the audience and took pictures with my kids. I think it is his best role - but Bob Roberts is awesome too.
