Ever seen the Alvin Ailey Dance Company?
Edited on Mon Jun-28-04 10:09 AM by ChavezSpeakstheTruth
I saw them in New Haven about 3 years ago and then again in NYC with the future Mrs CStheT about a year and a half ago. The experiences BLEW ME AWAY!!!

I have never been very interested in dance and expected to be bored when a girl I was dating of took me the 1st time. They did Ailey's classic Revelations. OMG!!! I was on the edge of my seat for every moment.

Such a rich celebration of being black in America. A more powerful show I have never seen.

So - any fans here?

1. Yes, I saw them twice in Portland
Hey, DUers, if they come to your city, run to the box office to pick up some tickets. You won't be sorry.

3. Sell things if you have to- they are a must see at least once in your lifE
And don't be like "I'm a guy - I don't watch dance" - that;s bullshit! This is profound human expression and unbelievable skill!

10. BIG FAN HERE!!!
Unfortunately I was born too early. I took ballet as a kid and was TOTALLY into it, the best in class. Ms. Keeney basically threw me out of the class at 9 after some months on toe, explaining to my enraged mother, "She's excellent and I do so love her and her enthusiasm. I could never forgive myself for raising her hopes as the black body is inappropriate for classical dance."

17. A similar thing happened to Miles Davis when he was in elementary school
he was one of the top 3 students in his class and aspired to be a lawyer - his teacher (knowing full well how bright he was) said he should try and be something like a carpenter because "ni@*ers can't be lawyers".

Well we all know that Miles became one of the most important figures in American music history, but he never forgot that teacher's words to the day he died!

All I can say is that that is some foul shit to be saying to a kid - much love to you Karenina!

Superlatives fall short of adequate description.
