I'm excited!! I'm buying Al Franken's book today
during my lunch hour.

I called the book store, and they are holding a copy for me. Just for lil ole me :D

"Lies" is really selling well.

Take THAT, Faux News :D

Did I mention that I have a serious crush on Al?

Funny is sexy :D

1. I'm about halfway through it
It's hilarious. The chapter on Bill O'Reilly alone made the purchase worth it.

7. Hey CW! Parallel lives? Finished Conason, got Franken...
...am enjoying my ass off. The parallels between Conason and Franken are great - and Al's savaging of Coulter, Hannity, Colmes and O'Reilly ROCK!

6. Joe C.'s is a library read.

It's useful, but he doesn't really connect
the dots. He just relates anecdote after
anecdote, without any kind of overarching theme
or structure.

I found it extremely frustrating, something like
Alterman's "What Liberal Media". These guys
are terrific in short bursts, but over the long
haul they're not so hot.

10. I disagree - I think Alterman and Conason lay the groundwork
so that by the time you read Franken, you know he's fully documented.

I read them in this order: Alterman (major documentation); Conason (less pervasive documentation, but more readable); and Franken (hilarious).

The Wellstone chapter is a heart-breaker though.

11. I liked Conason's book.

I guess I was just expecting more theory and less
anecdote.

I'm one of those people who wants to connect long
measure dots, not the microsteps.

I just wish Joe C. could get on a Hannity show or
an O'Really show. He'd kick their behinds but
good.

9. You will love it.
I got mine Friday and finished it over the weekend. One warning, the Wellstone memorial chapter made me cry. Of course some commercials make me cry.

13. I have had a helluva time finding it here
One of the local indies promised it in yesterday, but it wasn't in. Not even the evil B&N has it.

I can't wait to get it.

Edited on Wed Aug-27-03 10:13 AM by LynneSin
I know the owner and they're putting a copy aside for me. I'll pick it up at lunch time. I love independent bookstores! Here's a shout out to the Night Street Book Store in downtown Wilmington DE
