Poll question: Best firefight in a film?
Obviously there are a good number of choices, so I will try and list as many as I can think of.

fire·fight
n. An exchange of gunfire, as between infantry units.

4. I'd have forgiven you if you had simply said,
"I forgot because the last 2 movies sucked."

6. No excuse like that for me...
I don't hate the Matrix sequals.....

I mean - I prefer the original as a stand-alone film; but the last two have some good eye candy and the final fight the third film gave me true hope for a film version of The Death of Superman (Superman and Doomsday duking it out in downtown Metropolis, detonating the windows for ten blocks when they puch each other. /drool)

7. It's all about putting it in its proper perspective
The Matrix series is probably the best sci-fi trilogy ever made. If you put it in THAT context, as opposed to simply being a "normal movie", you come away with a much better feeling. I liked 2 and 3 also, by the way. The ending was a little cheesy, but really, with something like this, it'd have been really hard to finish it off well.

5. For me it's 90% of Black Hawk Down
Forget the specifics of the realities of the translation between fact and film - the combat scenes are fantastic. That movie prevented me from quitting smoking when I first saw it. That's how on edge it had me.

10. Good one!
Been a while since I saw Ronin.

I could have also mentioned the finale of "The Professional"; I am thinking of a lot more now that I already created the poll! :o

I brain-locked trying to think about the sheer number of awesome gunfights in film.

One of John Woo's early films. Good grief they chewed up a lot of gunpowder.

15. One few have probably seen yet: Battle Royale
Recent Japanese flick. Premise: Future distopia. Japan has 27% unemployment. Social structure has collapsed. Youth no longer respects anything. So for whatever reason it is determined to take one 9th grade class a year and stick them on an island. 3 days later they will take the one survivor off the island and let them go.

This movie is making a lot of waves in Japan. It has a lot of people running around with a lot of different weapons. Very interesting stuff if a bit particular to Japanese culture.

16. Here are my favorites:
Reservoir Dogs - The mexican standoff at the end that ends with everyone dead.

The Way of the Gun - The big finale at the end that's pretty much a bloody recreation of Butch & Sundance's demise.

Terminator 2 - When the cops storm the Cyberdyne building and Arnold is standing at the window with a grenade launcher and a mini-gun.

Star Wars - The escape from the Death Star.

Raiders of the Lost Ark - The bar fight in Nepal. (Not really a firefight, but there are guns fired.)

Face/Off - Pretty much the whole damn movie.

Aliens - Again, almost the whole movie.

Boogie Nights - The scene at Doc Ock's house with the firecrackers and the "Sister Christian" song.

There are tons more awesome scenes that I'm forgetting, but these are the ones that come to mind.

17. Hard Boiled
The other movies don't deserve to be on the list when compared to Hard Boiled. See Chow Yun Fat blow away countless numbers of gangsters holed up in the basement of a hospital.
