Tech question - how to uninstall MSN Messenger.

This thing installed itself uninvited. I did the usual things to try to delete but can't get rid of it. When I go to programs and it says "to uninstall a program, highlight the program and then click add/remove." When I click on add/remove it gives me the option to remove but when I click on that it starts installing it again. How do I get rid of this dang thing?

and you will find an app you can download that will let you disable the program either system-wide or only on selected users' accounts. I use it and it's a great little program. It's called MessengerDisable.

On edit: Changed "uninstall" to "disable", as you simply can't completely uninstall the program, you can only alter it so that it won't execute at startup or any other time.

3. If you're using XP, go to add/remove programs

in control panel. Select 'add/remove windows components', uncheck 'windows messenger'.

then choose Windows Setup. i think it's in there, you can uncheck the box, and it will be removed.

Go to Start>Run, and type msconfig. From there, go to the Startup tab, and look for msmsgs. Deselect the check box, and click OK. The next time you start up your computer, a dialogue will explain that your startup process has been modified. Be sure and select (or deselect.. I forget) the check box to prevent this message from occurring every time you start your computer.
