I have a feeling a co-worker is going to be fired tomorrow...
This week one of my co-workers and break buddy, Jane, was told to observe and learn the job done by Dick. She sat at his desk and took copious notes. Since Dick sits behind me I could hear some of what was going on. Jane told Dick that she was observing him so that the supervisor could come up with production standards.

Fast forward to this afternoon. My snoopervisor, Helga, comes to me at 215 and asks if I can work overtime tonight (I normally leave at 230). I said yes and asked why. We took a walk. She said that Dick was going to be busy all next week and since Jane is on vacation I needed to learn Dick's job ASAP.

I thought it odd because Helga said Dick was going to be doing a special project for the manager, Darth Sidious. Dick comes in at 5AM and Darth Sidious does not come in until around 730. I thought surely Dick could do his normal job until Darth Sidious came in everyday but Helga said no I would definitely be doing his job.

Helga was extremely guarded when asked any questions. Her facial expressions betrayed her words that is for sure.

I really hate to see anyone lose their jobs. This guy is one of the few in the uhit who truly undestands my geekieness and various obsessions with hobbits and sci fi in general.

Tomorrow we are all working an abbreviated day so if anything happens it will be early. Generally when they fire people at this place they do it early in the morning.

I am not happy and I have sphilkes. IF Dick is fired what should I say to him?

1. Having just been through that experience
It will mean the world to him if you call him up and say you're really sorry about it, it sucks, and that people are assholes.

2. I think that he is going to be fired
I use to work in the personnel dept. at Kraft and this sounds like what went on when someone had more then 5 years under their belt because they didn't want to pay benefits.

I would phone him but tell him not to mention your name.

But then again he might drag you into the situation and say that you called him and told him about it ahead of time.

4. He "knows".. There are vibes that have been sent out,
and unless he's in fantasyland, he knows..:(..

Call him after the fact and sympathize...offer to let him use you as a reference..

5. Hey you have nicknames for assholes at work too!
Just be supportive. If it bugs you that much, when he is fired...quit! I've always wanted to do that. But hey, tell him to call you and go out for beers that night or something.
