Has enyone here ever smoked Salvia Divinorum?
It's a legal alternative to pot. I've never liked pot. It makes me paranoid and hyper-vigilant. Have any of you tried it?

1. yep....
It's a brief, edgy sort of buzz, kind of like 'shrooms for a few minutes. Doesn't last long. Buy the 5x or 10x concentrated variety-- the plain leaf is not very powerful when dried and smoked. The fresh leaf is supposed to be VERY trippy when absorbed through the mucus membranes of the mouth, but mine was frost killed before I could try it.

As far as the dried, smokable stuff is concerned, pot is way better, IMO.

2. It's in the same family as Coleus
when I lived in Detroit, people would make an cool water infusion from the Coleus leaves. They'd let them soak for several hours. It took severals dozen leaves.

3. It IS NOT an alternative to pot
Salvia Divinorum is an extremely powerful halucinogen, sometimes compared to DMT for its short term EXTREMELY INTENSE trip. If you are going to try it, you will need to be with several people you trust and in a very safe and controlled environment. Even then, if you aren't in a very stable mental and emotional state, you will not have a pleasant experience.

This is most assuredly NOT a recreational drug. However, if respected and used correctly, it can be very spiritual. 2-3 hits held is typically the proper dose (you won't be able to take more than that, anyway). Most people prefer low light or candle light, as it provides a more soothing and harmonious environment.

4. I should also add
Edited on Thu Aug-28-03 10:15 PM by depakote_kid
that while my three experiences have been spiritual and positive, about half of the people I know who have tried Salvia are adament that they will never try it again. If you're not prepared for a waking dream Carlos Castaneda-like experience, don't even consider using it.

5. In other words...
Can stuff fall out of your subconscious from it? If so, a person had oughta like his/her subconscious before trying it...(IMO that applies to any hallucinogen.)

13. things can and do fall out of your subconscious
and as deseo say, people may not like what they see there.

On the other hand, the visions can also be wonderous, evoking a part of you that you've forgotten about or hearkening you back to a place where you were once carefree and content. In my first experience, I found myself lying amidst and oldgrowth forest near a waterfall east of Ashland Oregon- a place where I used to go with my college sweetheart. It was all very beautiful and filled with love, which was exactly what I needed, because I was going through a rough time.

Although it's been a year or since last reminded you, you are one intelligent person and a very concise writer at that.

12. I'll never try it again.
I like to actually see things that are there... And I could not see anything but hallucinations. No one told me what the crap would do, and I was already on 3 hits of lsd. Damn that stuff.

and can be spiritual...in that it can give the experience of "no time" or the stopping of time, with the ego dropping away. Amazing stuff!

9. Glad you posted this
I was kind of stunned that it was being bandied about like a pot alternative. Most people are not prepared for what a moderate dosage salvia trip can do to them, myself included. Caveat emptor.

10. Salvia, like do you mean in sage?
I have a whole yard full of Salvia, but I think if I wanted to get high, I would try smoking the Nepeta (cat mint). It works for kitty anyway.
