DU CYCLISTS! Wish me luck.
I'm getting ready to try out the new clipless pedals that I just installed. I could have made this a poll to guess how many times I'll wipe out as I'm getting used to them.

Check it out, though! I found some ultra-comfy Nike biking shoes and Shimano pedals on sale, and only spent about $115! WooHoo!

Here goes nothin'......

2. Be careful when you stop!
Everybody forgets to unclip at one time or another, especially after a long ride. You usually don't fall all the way over, but you do look pretty stupid to onlookers. Beginners panic and forget how to get unclipped easily and try to yank their foot out as they're falling over.

Try to find a nice simple unclip motion: for mine, it's simply rotate my heel outward a couple of inches and I'm free.

Have fun, you'll never regret using clipless pedals.

Oh, and good luck.

3. Good luck!

I've been using clipless pedals for six months now, and have wiped out 4 times so far. (Fortunately, I avoided anything more serious than minor scapes each time.)

Two of these falls were on the same ride, even though I was being very conscious of twisting my ankle, several times over the course of several seconds, as I stopped the bike. The shoe just wouldn't come out. I was helpless. Finally, ... crash! over I went.

After the second time this happened, I became very suspicious and discovered that the cleats in the bottom of the shoe were extremely loose, so that turning the shoe had no effect on the cleat whatsoever, hence leaving me attached to the bike.

So be careful about always making sure your cleats are screwed in tight!

Peter

5. I think he's still stuck to the pedals
Someone scrape him off the sidewalk!
