We have the most beautiful cat up for adoption - a Bengal Mix
As many of you might know, I volunteer once a week at the local adoption center at my local Pet Smart. We get our cats from Rescue groups around the state that first, are all no-kill groups and second they also help to reduce the number of feral cats by trapping, neutering and then re-releasing those too feral to be adopted.

Anyhow, found wandering the street was this beautiful cat with the most unique coloring and eyes. The coat was like a burnt orange with spots on it and the eyes were the richest green color found. The vet doesn't think it's a purebreed bengal but the cat was neutered and de-clawed when they found it. However after a few weeks of searching for an owner (no tags or microchips) they opted to put the cat up for adoption. I spent about 20 minutes cuddling this cat and I would love to adopt him but I don't think a declawed cat would do well in my home with 2 clawed ones (plus 2 is the max at the apartment where I live).

Any here own bengals? Beautiful cats and I'm sure this one will get a great home very quickly (btw he goes for the same rate as all our other cats - $75 to cover all the fees)

4. I tried checking out their website, but they haven't posted pictures yet

But this is what Bengals look like. The reason the vet thought it was a mix was because of the girth of the cat.

7. I wish I could find a nice progressive thinker who could adopt him
I searched the web to see if I could find a picture that sorta looked like this cat but none of them did him justice. The colors are just so freaking rich on his fur and I've never seen eyes that green on a cat (maybe because of the fur which, really brought out the eye colors). I'm thinking of going back there again tonight for another 20 minutes of snuggle time

2. Bengals are beautiful
and I would take him in a minute (I want one!) but he would need claws at the farm. Good luck, I didn't know you did this. Good for you, I am so impressed. My farm neighbors have a gazillion cats, none neutered so I catch them in a live trap in my barn and get them neutered, vaccinated then release them again. The vet gives me a discount and the neighbor is not certain who is doing it. HA HA. The population is still high but not increasing as it once did. If enough of us do these things eventually we may make a dent.

6. Someone did that to my Aunt's farm
She had about 60 cats on the farm and they were all well fed but not fixed. Someone took the time to get all those cats fixed and it kinda ticked off my aunt. I mean, she understood why someone would do this but they ended up getting them all fixed and she ended up not having any cats to kill the mice in the farm.

8. I know it is deceitful
but they do not feed them or care for them, they just let them breed. They come to my place, have babies (that is how I got mine) and eat my cats food and fight. They most likely die horribly so I do this. I can't catch them all and it is difficult to catch them at all. Sorry about your Aunt and I am sorry if this seems wrong but I was overrun and they looked so miserable.

10. Your point is very valid
My aunt fed them plenty of food and of course the barns were filled with mice. It was just frustrating because let's face it - those were working cats there to help keep down the mouse population and she didn't have to worry about buying more cats when needed since they would get a fresh supply each year.

12. I do understand that
but there are so many around you can get for free or for a small fee. I have had the same cats now for about 7 years and I have no mice or rats anymore and I imagine it will stay that way for a while longer. Now I feel all bad!!! Actually no, these people don't take care of anything. I caught them trapping on my land after I told them not to so I threw their traps into my pond. It is an ongoing thing, their dogs are skinny and ratty too. Oh well, I'm sorry about your Aunt though.

11. Tried posting him on Petfinder.com?
That's where we got our cat, Jasper. We searched for a cat in our area and found him.

Let's you list all the animal's good and bad points - declawed, good with kids, bad with other animals, etc.

You wouldn't happen to live in NC would you? We're seriously looking for a declawed kitty for Jasper to play with.

15. We're in Wilmington
But Delaware, not North Carolina.

Our adoption group has about 4 different cat rescue groups that provide cats for our adoptions. Many do use pet-finders, but Pet Smart is wonderful with not only providing us space to setup our adoption area, but providing us with food/litter and contributions towards our organization. Our group (Animal Humane Sanctuary) and the other adoption group (Delaware Humane) both charge $75 for adoption. We also provide reduce fees for 2+ adoptions and for cats over 6 years of age (since they have a tough time getting homes). For every cat we adopt, Pet Smart will donate $5 to our center AND provide the adoptees with all sorts of great coupons to get you setup with your new cat including a free bag of food & litter (PetSmarts own brand) and discounts on litter boxes, travel cases, toys, treats you name it!!!

Pet-Finder is an awesome way to find the cat you need, but some folks like to come in and 'test drive' their cat before adopting. I had one lady 2 weeks ago come in with her dog and wanted to find a cat that would get along with the dog. A 3 year old orange cat snuggled right up to him and that was the one she adopted (mind you, it's a minimum 24hour wait period to take your cat home - which prevents impromptu adoptions that tend to have the cat come back to us)

It's a little sad now because the kittens are getting all the attention and adopted right away. Even the few 9month old cats are having a hard time finding a home because they aren't as "cute & cuddly" as the kittens. I had one lady come in last week who was looking for a lapcat for adoption. I made her sit down and I brought out my favorite guy (outside of my own Abbott) Napoleon, a big 16lb Tabby Tom cat, and plopped him right on her lap. He promptly rolled over on her and started to purr up a storm. Another happy couple!!

18. auditions don't necessarily work
I wanted a "lap kitty". I auditioned one cat that sat nicely in my lap and even snuggled up to my neck and purred like a diesel engine.

A week later it started ignoring me and hasn't been a lap kitty since. I guess he felt ill after being "fixed" but once he was better he didn't need me anymore.

:cry::cry:

13. I Adore Bengal cats...
but I never would have one because I only have strays that need a home. If I didn't already have 5, I would beg for this cat. They are such gorgeous cats. Make sure it goes to a very special person who will know what a treasure they have.

Every time I go into PetSmart, I want to take all the adoptable kitties they have there. In fact, one of the reasons I shop at PetSmart is the animal adoption program. I praise and admire folks that take their time to help pets find a new home. You are a hero for doing this!

14. If I weren't in Tennessee, I'd take him right away.
I wish there was a way. My husband is in NY right now on business, but he already has a direct flight home booked, or I'd have him swing by and pick him up.

19. Best I could say is to call the PetSmart in Wilmington DE
and ask for the Animal Humane Sanctuary. I'm not sure which group brought the cat in so I don't have additional details about a website but the number they can call is 302-475-0618 and ask for that above group and if the Bengal Mix cat is still available.

The last time we had a special breed in the adoption area was a Pixie-Bob that came in through the other group - Delaware Humane (there are 2 groups who are setup for adoptions). That thing got adopted real quickly. We've also had a few Persians, Himilayians and Siamese that come in and they get adopted out pretty quickly too. Like all of our cats, they have a fee of $75 (although a 9 year old Maine Coon purebred went for $45 because he was an older cat).

I'm really just a once a week volunteer for the group. I didn't even go in this week for volunteer because of bad sinutis but I drove up there late on Sunday to get catfood & litter.

I hope that helps!

22. To bad he's not closer to Dallas.
I'd take him in a heartbeat (I think Bengals are the most beautiful cats). I don't think my 4 females would appreciate him at first, though! :-) Good luck finding him a home.
