I'm in the IT field. Have an MIS degree. Graduated 2001. Realized the degree is worthless. I started off as a web developer. Pretty much stuck now having to look for web developer positions...which are so incredibly few. Wish I could get hired on as a software or network person. Anything else in IT would be great. But its a catch 22. Need experience to get experience. I hate the fact that you need connections to get a dang job these days. Only have like 3 real connections and none could help me out. Why can't emplorers look at your resume...and if you're qualified...at least interview you. Why is it, that if they know someone...they get preferential treatment. I've been out of work for like a year now. Did a little freelancing. It is so fustrating.
You've probably already tried this, but I would do some networking with your school's alumni group where you live - they may be able to help you facilitate connections that you do not have at the moment.
Good luck with the search and if you can't find what you're looking for, think about creating your own opportunity - start your own business and take it from there.
