I got flamed, torched, burned,
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 04:14 PM by MyUncle
scorched, singed, toasted, scalded, boiled, 3rd degree, all over my keyboard and monitor.

I posted the "Al Gore LOST the election" thread on GD

I am sorry.

1. What should you do?
You might start by not posting bullshit. Fair enough?

7. First...
I agree with Blue-Jay, above.

Second, do you think re-igniting the flame war in the Lounge is productive?

5. Truly? There are people who care deeply about that election because
it was indeed a bloodless coup. They haven't gotten over it and they never will. Chimp was chosen over the popular vote. Lay low, educate yourself and jump in again. But never trod too hard on people about that one. It's personal.

11. It was more than just the popular vote.
Edited on Fri Jul-30-04 04:30 PM by SarahBelle
It was the uncounted and disenfranchised thousands that were never counted because of the Supreme Court's decision. Read "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" by Greg Palast.

15. Al Gore won, Dubya just had better connections...
There is no doubt in my mind. Bush was SELECTED by conservative/republican judges, one of which (Scalia) seems to be a pretty good friend of Cheney...

22. Guess you got yourself an education, huh? Live and learn...
...that's what I say. I read your original post/thread. Frankly, the responses could have been a lot more harsh. I think folks cut you some slack. You WILL be bum-rushed if you touch a raw nerve on DU. You did so, somewhat cavalierly, IMO. Many people still care one hell of a lot about the travesty of democracy that was Election 2000. And well they should. Your assertion that we should just forget 2000 and look to the future ignores the reality that Bush and Co. are much better now at doing what they did in 2000. We do indeed need to remember what happened then so that we're prepared for what they're ALREADY doing in 2004.

My own mea culpa is this: It took me a while to realize what I should have admitted to myself much sooner: These people will stop at nothing, NOTHING, to get Bush re-elected. They make Dick Nixon's gang look like fucking amateurs. I regret the time I spent and lost living in a fantasy world about 2004. I'm commited to making up for my sins now. We all need to do all that we can. Hell, I donated to politicians this year, for the first time ever. For starters. Donated money (of which I have little) and time (of which I have somewhat more, quite obviously). Some smart and good people here on DU have convinced me that to NOT do so would be a grave error.

Anyway, welcome to DU.

Love ya,

Westegg

25. No worries and I was just teasing you in this thread
Have you not posted on BBS's much? A couple pointers if you haven't...sarcasm and satire MUST be clearly marked..and while your post in GD was really a poor choice of words...it works to reassess everything before you hit "post."

The greater point you made about people getting over it, I would disagree with although I DO agree with taking effective action which MIGHT result in change rather than complaining void of any remedy.

26. First BBS. So thanks for the advice.
In general I want to be provocative but not antagonistic. Sometimes we have no choice but to be aggressive. That was not my intent in the AG post. But, I learn.

28. Yes, but being "provocative" is not the same as
blatantly trolling a board to piss people off. Perhaps you could start a discussion about a topic that interests you, that you know people have a wide variety of views on. (might I suggest the Gungeon? - haha)

Being a noob, most people will think that you're being serious when you post inflammatory (stupid) comments. As people get used to your "vibe", they'll know how to take your posts better. Take NSMA, for instance: if she posted "That's it. I really think I'm voting for Bush.", everyone would laugh and probably follow up with equally false statements in the spirit of being humorous.

Ease into the world that is DU, noobie-cheese. It takes a while to get used to for some, and becomes an instant home for others.
