Good BEATLES Songs That Weren't Hits!
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 10:21 PM by liberalpragmatist
So many. And the hits are great too. But for me, I'm going with these:

Rain: GREAT song, the John-penned B-side to "Paperback Writer." For the life of me I can't understand why it wasn't a double-A side. Now found on Past Masters II compilation CD.

Two of Us: Great song from Let it Be and Let it Be...Naked.

Also...
"Happiness is a Warm Gun," "Dear Prudence," "Long Long Long," "I'm So Tired," "Helter Skelter," and "Savoy Truffle" from The White Album.

And the Abbey Road Medley from Abbey Road.

3. Helter Skelter was a hit (Hey Bulldog, Dear Prudence, Northern Song)
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 09:48 PM by Argumentus
If for the wrong reasons...

I've always loved Dear Prudence, and some of the stuff off Yellow Sub, like Hey Bulldog and Northern Song, are pretty damned good.

And Tomorrow Never Knows: techno before there was techno.

Living Colour just did a remake of it on their latest album.

They also cover AC/DC's "Back In Black". (Get it?)

24. Lena Horne singing Rocky Raccoon
LOL I remember Lena Horne singing "Rock Raccoon" on The Flip Wilson Show, something about it was very weird, I'm not sure what i was.

32. thanks!
Actually though, I've been around here for about a year, lol, I just seem new since I am mainly just a lurker. It is nice to know that there are other people familiar with the area on these boards too, lol, because I usually don't see TOO many people from Louisville (or the state of KY for that matter) on here.

13. Lemme tell you about the time I ate an entire sheet
...and listened to the "White" album. On second thought, I won't bore you. But Jesus says "hi," and the acid is, indeed, good in heaven.

9. Tomorrow Never Knows
Nice version by "Our Lady Peace" opens the Neve Campbell movie "The Craft." David Lee Roth "attempted" the song on his last album "Diamond Dave." Brian Eno, when he was in "801" with Phil Manzanera, covered it on "801 Live."

14. Of course
I was just naming some of my favorites. Of course, the list will be different whenever someone asks me, with the exception of "Rain" which is probably my very favorite Beatles song.

Basically, virtually everything the Beatles did was fantastic. I'm someone relatively young, 19, but I'm a HUGE Beatles fan. I don't like all their stuff, but not b/c it's bad, just b/c some of their stuff can sound more dated. But on the whole I love them.

17. The first time I saw "The Craft" and didn't know the song was in the movie
...I got CHILLS.

It was that good. Totally unexpected, an aerial shot of the clouds, opening credits, and THOSE CHORDS. THAT SONG.

It's a pretty cool little soundtrack, but completely overshadowed by T.N.K...

21. Taught me the meaning of life
Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream,
It is not dying, it is not dying

Lay down al thoughts, surrender to the void,
It is shining, it is shining.

Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being

Love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing

And ignorance and hate mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing

But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not leaving, it is not leaving

So play the game "Existence" to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning

12. Blackbird...
The Night Before...The entire 'White Album'...The Sun King (listen to Radiohead's 'A Wolf At The Door', btw)...Twist and Shout.

My roomate and sister and I would drive around in my sister's old Capri and think we were so cool listening to a compilaion of obscure Beatles hits. We also did a lot of high volume Quiet Riot, too. Lohoosers!

I probably haven't said this enough tonight, but Mike Malloy ROCKS! God, I love this guy!

35. It was the flip of "Can't Buy Me Love." And it actually charted.
"You Can't Do That" peaked at #48 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964.

Interesting song for me, because on one hand it's so personal, and on the other it's so universal.
