What's it like living in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil?

I'll probably have to spend some time down there for work within the next year, and a permanent position there could result out of that temporary stint.

Anyone have experience with what's it like to live down there? the culture, people, health care, safety, politics, economy, etc.

Moving out of the country will definitely be on my radar screen if Bush wins in November.

I was there in February and I loved it there...it is a very liberal and happy culture that knows how to have fun - even when it is not Carnaval time. Safety is an issue with street crime, but the authorites realize that tourism is VERY importatn to their economy and have beefed things up a bit. Things are cheapoer down there so if you have an American wage, then you will do rather well.
