Why some men hate women poll

This came up in another thread. Someone said the basic reason some men hate women is because women can give birth and men can't. I've never quite understood that logic, since giving birth strikes me as a fairly unpleasant process that just so happens to have a wonderful side effect.

So here's the poll. Why do you think of this theory about male envy over female lifegiving?

I'm female and I think this is probably flame bait.

I'm no flamebaiter. I know the topic is controversial, but I really want to see what other people think. As a professional researcher I like to break things down by relevant demographics. But I'm trying to explore an idea, not start an argument.

and I probably should have posted the same thing on the other thread too...frankly I think mostly when men hate women it's all about their mother...same when women hate men.....our parents are the most formative relationships we have and we spend our entire lives comparing the world to them or relating to the world out of them and that relationship....try me...any theory..>I'll relate it.

I hate women when they complain about giving birth.

But more than that, I hate superficial gold-diggers which I tend to instantly classify all hot women as being. So that's my hangup.

What do you mean? When they talk about how painful it is?

competition. They fear opinionated women who can compete on a level playing field. Not only must they surpass all the other guys but, GODDAMMIT, now women have to be beaten back into submission too.

It's career fear, not sexual jealousy. Men, for the most part, are far to selfish to be jealous of a painful job of childrearing that requires a lifetime spent giving a child attention. Nuturing infants or toddlers or children or preteens or teenagers just is not a common aspect of most men's personalities.

I speak only for myself, but I never wanted to give birth. Ever. Ever. Ever. And I never heard another man honestly hint that he wished he could.

i like to believe because women can give birth, they have a more nurturing persona than men, and therefore the world will be safer if all its leaders were women.
(spare me the isolated examples of terror queens throughout history- the majority of women ARE better people than us men)

Some men hate women and some women hate men because the biological interests of men and women are not aligned. We have differing priorities.

So the sexes are always competing over the form society takes, and competition brings out the worst in some people.

Not everything is gender, of course. There are many, many other social competitions; race, class, religion, regional, etc.. Since gender is fixed it's the most intractable line of division, and as things like class or race become less important distinctions gender differences become proportionally more distinct. (White men and white women have a lot in common as long as race is a major distinction.)

It was probably inevitable that we couldn't have female suffrage until after the 15th amendment granted black men the vote, or have a 1970s feminist revolution until after the 1960s civil rights acts.

"If men could get pregnant, abortion would be mandatory." Or something like that.

I don't think it's about competition, but about powerlessness. The people who hate others (from my perspective, of course) are people who tend to use that hatred to vent out their frustration at being powerless in their lives.

That is, they can't get a job or they can't get ahead fast enough or they can't control their own drinking or accept some aspects of the world around them. So they react out of hate, they use that as an object to mask feelings of self doubt and impotence.

This is probaby the root of most irrational or category-based hatreds. You can hate whites or blacks or Jews or liberals or BushCo fascists or librul media or the Clintons or any other category you want to lump your phantom enemies into. Hatred is always a smallminded outlet for frustrations.

I'd rather spend my time fixing existing problems. Hate is a loser's game, no matter who you target.

I'm a woman so I don't think I could accurately say why a man would hate women, but my general view of bigotry is that it stems from fear. Sometimes the fear is of the unknown, sometimes fear is caused by horrible experiences in early childhood.

If I had to be a mind reader (and I'm not so it all has to be taken with a grain of salt) I would make the assumption that many men who hate women do so because of their screwed up sense of sexuality. A love/hate mentality towards sex and desire seems to screw people up.

But notice two-thirds of women think there's something to it while 15 out of 18 men say it's bunk. I'm in that 15 saying it's malarkey, so I'm wondering if this is one of those theories that says more about the theorizer than the theorizee.

Um, but only if you accept the premise that "theorizee" is a real word.

This bigotry, racism, hatred is killing me. Love restores me.

I don't think I'm upset that I can't give birth... ?

Then again, I basically worship the ground women walk on...

We may be scared shitless of them, we may distrust them completely, we may be totally unable to comprehend them, but hate isn't a factor.

I absolutely adore women. Dated hundreds, bedded many, married two of them.

My main complaint is that never, in all of recorded history, has any single woman in all nations, of all tribes of all types, ever agreed that the fault was hers.

I can't see being jealous of that.

Couple that with the physical and emotional joys that come monthly, and I see no reason to have womb envy.

If I were to hate women, it would be over trust issues stemming from past experiences.

religion, economics, government, and personal. I'm not convinced it's one true thing e.g., pychoanalytical.

If men were not surrounded by incessant messages not to trust girls and women, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

It is sort of screwy to talk about "men" hating "women" in the first place. Many men, IMHO, envy the bonding between mother and child because they sometimes feel left out, but that is a far cry from hating women.

Unless you're talking about Ann Coulter, of course.

Sexual urges are VERY strong in us, so strong they can interfere with rational thinking and sound judgement. Some men resent this lack of control, so they blame the stimulus that arouses it.
