6. Daniel Day Lewis
That man can ACT! And he's delicious eye-candy as well.

I have a fantasy in which Scorcese re-makes *Last Temptation" with a decent cast. Daniel Day Lewis is a shoe-in for the title role; I can't think of another young actor with the gravitas to pull that off.

Lili Taylor
Pete Postlethwaite
Bill Murray
Johnny Depp
Francis McDormand
Harold Perrineau
Annette Benning
Aaron Ekhardt
Ice Cube

sometimes i get disappointed, but in general, this bunch picks great roles. I usually follow directors over actors, tho. Fortunately, so do these actors.

I'd add Kevin Spacey if it weren't for The Ref and David Gale
I'd add Benicio Del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones...then I saw "The Hunted." Unforgivable.

Johnny Depp. Always picks really interesting material. Don't believe me? Watch Dead Man. And even if the overall film isn't great, his performance is 150%. JD has been a scene-stealer since Edward Scissorhands. Oh yeah, there's that most beautiful and handsome man on the planet thing he's got going on too. :loveya:

Juliette Binoche. Loved Blue

Judi Dench.

Susan Sarandon.

17. Are there no minorities in Allen's New York City?
Edited on Sun Aug-31-03 10:05 AM by tjdee
That's one thing that bothers me about Woody Allen's work--and it doesn't bother me, really, until I think about it--I'm not one of *those* people, LOL.

But dang, he puts everyone from Leo Dicaprio to Julia Roberts to Christina Ricci in his films, it's like he deliberately does NOT put minorities in his movies. I know that's probably not the case, he's married to an Asian, and really, what does it matter.... LOL, I'm just on a "dang, ain't no black actresses working except Halle Berry and Beyonce, who isn't even an actor!" kick.

on edit:
WOOPS! This was supposed to be under HynoToad's reply, not yours, Kahuna.... Kevin Spacey is not a director! Uh, go get some coffee, tjdee...

16. Adrien Brody, Julia Roberts, and...um...tom cruise...you didn't read that!
Edited on Sun Aug-31-03 10:03 AM by tjdee
Adrien :loveya: There is something about his style that is very real, and I swear the sexiest scene I've ever seen is the one where he's walking with his lady friend in The Pianist and says "I like to see a woman play the cello." WOOO!

Julia, you know, I really don't like very many actresses, for some reason I adore her. And I know I won't be seeing flash of boob, either, with Julia.

Now, as I've said, I didn't look at Tom Cruise at all until Mission Impossible. Still don't think he's the cutest guy in the world--it's almost embarrassing now, LOL. I buy my tickets in secret! He's a workaholic and is really picky about his projects. Also, he gets props with me for pushing for black actors (he did it with Thandie Newton in MI2, actually Julia did it too with Denzel in Pelican Brief). I hated Eyes Wide Shut, but overall since Nicole's gone his work is looking up!

I would have said Ralph Fiennes too, but I've yet to see that J-Lo vehicle. Yikes.

Edited on Mon Sep-01-03 08:55 AM by tjdee
I've been toying with the idea of buying it.

I'm so glad he's got his Oscar now, he'll be getting better material, and his work will be more readily available for drooling.

They're going to (re?) release Dummy with Adrien and Milla Jovovich, I think in October, and I dunno about that, LOL. All of Milla's movies are flops!

I'm not sure I can say that about anybody.

There are several people who, if they are in a movie will be a tipping point for me; if I'm not sure whether to see it or not, their presence will be enough to lure me in. Which is sometimes a mistake.

so

Nicole Kidman - she mesmerizes me
Nicholas Cage - I think he is an excellent actor
Denzel Washington
Johnny Depp - he chooses interesting roles
Jodie Foster - best female actor working today
Edward Norton
Juliet Binoche
Wesley Snipes
Forrest Whittaker
Elisabeth Shue

29. I won't see every movie by any actor, because
an actor can be in all different types of movies, and some may be movies that don't interest me. I may give a movie more consideration because of a particular actor, but I won't 'have' to see it. A movie one of my favorites is in just may not interest me because it's a genre I don't like (or won't see). For example, DiNiro is one of the actors who would cause me to consider seeing a movie, but I absolutely refuse to see horror (or similarly gross) movies, so there was no way I was going to see "Angel Heart." Other actors whose movies pique my interest would be Pacino, Ed Norton.

It's directors' names that get me to the movies. For the most part, you know what kind of movie to expect from a particular director, so it makes more sense to me to make a choice that way. If I see the name "Scorcese" I'm there--no questions asked. His is the only name I can say that about. But I'm also likely to see movies by Kevin Smith, John Sayles (depending on the story, since there's a bit more variation in his choices), possibly Ed Burns.
