Do you sometimes feel like you hate your fellow man?
Sometimes, I'm afraid I'm becoming a misanthrope. I'll be on the El going to work, and I'll look at my fellow passengers with this absolute contempt. They're complete strangers...but I feel this loathing of them. No discernable reason. There are times I feel perfectly content being by myself.

Am I weird about feeling that, sometimes? And no, it has NOTHING to do with anyone here. :-)

Terry

1. I'm becoming a misanthrope too
either that or a grumpy old maid. But it's not always so. But taking the subway sort of does that to you. All that smashing together really makes a person long for space.

3. I'm with George Bernard Shaw on this one. (At least, sometimes.):
'I have a deep and abiding love for humanity; it's people that I can't stand.'

4. Oh, yeah, the CTA is all fear and loathing...

You could go crazy from riding it too much, I am convinced. I used to ride it just to people-watch.

Be careful, though: Mrs. Cat busted me very early on for being "elitist" and self-centered in my biases against the rest of the human race. She was right. I'm doing better now.

5. It's how I get to and from work each day. I don't own a car.
But, Lord, just being in the same space sometimes....it gets to me. That makes me sound snobby as hell, but I just chalk it up to misanthropic attitudes.

6. Absolutely!
I’m a total misanthrope! We stomp around this planet with our 'might makes right' superior intelligence arrogance leaving a wake of destruction where ever we go.

Some days I would like to buy a gun & six billion bullets.

7. Interesting. I sometimes think that way, but not on the train.
I don't ride the CTA that much anymore, but I am on METRA every working day and, oddly, it's the one time of day I feel at peace.

My take is, when I'm on the train, I'm in the same boat as everyone else on the train. That makes us equals. It's calming to some degree. I just sit back and enjoy the ride. I read. I nap. I sit with some regulars on the way home. It's OK.

I feel contempt for others when I'm at the supermarket mostly. I see the kinda of crap that other people are stuffing down their pieholes and it disgusts me. Then I realize that they feed some of that stuff to their kids. Ughhh.

Otherwise, I'm quite content out in public.
