No apology needed, but those lines are among the most misunderstood ever.

Fallersleben, the poet who wrote the text, was a Democrat, sometimes even called a "rebel".
The original intent is to say "Germany is more than the Kingdoms". It did not mean "Germany above everything", but "Germany above Bavaria, Prussia, Hesse, Westphalia,...".
