What foods do you hate?
There are many things I do not eat (picky eater). However, sour creme always seemed especially gross.

What will you not eat and why?

Actually, when I was child, I would cry when my mother cooked beef liver. The smell was horrible, and it made me think about how I was going to feed it to the dog without Mom seeing.

53. Then it was not cooked properly
Calamari must be cooked (fried) very quickly or braised very slowly. Any other way it is just yucky.

I first tried Calamari in Venice when we were sitting next to a lovely Greek couple who looked like they were eating tiny onion rings. They offered us some and then told me it was squid. I would never have tried it if I had known. I thank them whenever I eat it now.

Try it again at a good Italian Restaurant.

although I do like sweetbreads.

But I love most of the foods mentioned here -- liver is great if it's cooked right. So are brussel sprouts, fish, okra, limas (although butter beans are better). I bet a lot of it's due to bad preparation.

Cilantro I would bet is a genetic thing where it physically tastes different to different people. Too bad -- it's one of the most wonderful food smells there is.

61. The green bean casserole my MIL makes at Thanksgiving
What could be worse than canned green beans in a cheesy mushroom soup sauce? Bleccccch. I don't even make a pretense of trying it anymore, even to be polite.

65. Seafood, pork, kasha, mushrooms,
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 07:08 PM by scarlet_owl
any kind of squash, pumpkin pie (and it seems everyone else in the world loves it), eggs, melons, organ meats, etc.

I'm basically a pretty picky eater. I could live off of beef kebabs and grapes (what I'm eating right now).

On edit: after reading many of the posts, I have noticed that I actually like lots of the things that top peoples lists. I love black licorice, broccoli, brussels sprouts, lima beans.

69. You hate my favorite foods. The ONLY thing I won't eat is beef,
poultry, pork, or any animal meat processed in the USA. After taking cattle and other animals to slaughter with my uncle (truck driver), I got to see how beef is actually processed in this country in the biggest factories of the Southwest... I will NEVER eat beef again. The memory of what I saw has kept me beef free for nearly two decades.

Ha ha! I'm glad you do not like seafood - that means more for ME!

67. I hate corporate food and most foodstuffs bought in chain supermarkets.
Though, if we had a nuclear winter I'd happily eat people... with lots of Cajun spices, okra cilantro, brussle sprouts, mushrooms, coconuts, oranges, onions, cauliflower, broccoli, beans, etc. Everything you guys WON'T eat.

Seriously though, I eat things that most folks here would puke if they just watched. A woman from California puked at one of our crawfish boils when I sucked out the brains of a big crawdaddy in front of her. Another time, a person got sick when she saw baby octopus legs sticking out of my mouth as I was chewing it down.

I won't eat anything that I think smells funny or looks unappetizing. That includes:

Mushrooms
Olives
Sea Food (just the smell of fish makes me sick)
Pork
Lima beans
Sour Cream
Guacamole
Nuts

I could go on. I'm a picky eater and if it smells or looks funny or I can't identify on sight what it is - I WON'T EAT IT! My poor mother went through hell trying to feed me growing up.

88. I hate lutefisk.
For those of you blissfully ignorant to the existence of lutefisk, let me expain. It's basically fish, that's been dried and heavily salted for several weeks. It is then marinated in lye, until it gets mushy.

Then you eat it. Most people survive.

93. Surströmming is worse....

...than lutefisk, hands down. The smell alone has been known to kill people...lol.

For those who have never had the "pleasure" it's salted, fermented, sour herring...it's stored in cans and occasionally the cans will explode leaving the most horrible smell to waft through the store.

Cheers,
Kim :toast:

91. Several people say they dislike pork - you are wrong
Pork is the finest food possible. Especially slow smoked pork.

In order of deliciousness - here is the list of good products of the pig which everyone should eat. (I understand certain religions forbid eating of pork. That is too bad.)

1. Pulled pork shoulder.

2. Bacon.

3. Pork tenderloin.

4. Bacon again.

5. Pork chops.

6. Ham.....hmmmm...ham

From snout to curly little tail, the swine is delicious. Prove me wrong.

101. Short ribs. BLEAH.
They are nothing but fat with a bit of bone stuck in the middle. Just thinking about them makes me want to hurl.

Also, I'm sure many of us here in the U.S. have FOND memories of eating those nasty mixed vegetables that came in a frozen block. You know what I'm talking about -- tasteless green beans, little cubes of carrot, a sprinkling of corn, and especially vile lima beans. Years later, when I ate a casserole prepared with lima beans, I found out that particular legume wasn't always disgusting. Your standard-issue frozen mixed vegetable package from the supermarket is, though.

And count me among those who don't care for black licorice either, although anise flavored coffee is something I've enjoyed. Go figure.
