I gave in...I joined an argument on rec.music.artists.springsteen!

Some painful freeper who think's she knows it all started a thread called "Bruce RIP". Some interesting quotes from her response to all the responses:

"The left-wing forces of peace, understanding, tolerand and Brotherhood For All, speaking in their usual manner."

"I do plenty of reading, thanks. Including American history. In fact, I'd be more than happy to take you on in that subject. Warning, however: I'll win. And you'll look bad in the process."

It was at this point that I responded "I doubt it", and told her there were countless people who would kick her ass, like, oh, I don't know...people from HERE? Come on over and make some good points.

She seems to equate record sales with who the country agrees with. Toby Keith has sold more records, so Bruce must be wrong. Another great, self-centered one:

"I'm preety familiar with America's values and beliefs, and I'd wager I'm closer to them than you all are."

I know fighting with these idiots might be a waste of time, but if you've got nothing better to do, fire up the Usenet client of your choice and join in. :)

They're relatively easy to deal with. I usually just needle them until they become so angry that they start screwing up.

Anyone who is spoiling for a fight will have a lowered threshhold for "ignition", and that includes lefties as well as the Freepish folk. She's looking to irritate the Springsteen fans. Why not push her own buttons and make her dance like the impulsive sock puppeteer she is?

Also: Don't respond to her posts immediately. Give it several hours. Net fighters get absorbed in their own stink; you can easily ruin several of her days if you're even halfway decent at mindf*cking.
