You don't have to be popular to get votes. I voted for myself, and no one even knows who I am.

along with the "Which DUer would you want to meet?" threads, and the "Who's the hottest DUer?" threads. The other day, there was a "Which DUer would you want to meet?" thread. I try so hard to not even CLICK on those kinds of threads, but despite my better judgement, I did anyway. And guess what? There were lots of people I thought were my "friends" on DU who posted big lists of names and didn't mention me. It's hurtful, which is why these threads suck so badly.

I usually don't participate in such threads because I know that I'd offend whoever I didn't list.

but i do usually avoid those threads too. we have a plethora of funny people at DU who display different types of humor. it would be impossible for me to choose a funniest.

You know, I didn't post the post above because I was really all that HURT-hurt. I have many wonderful friends on DU and a pretty high degree of name recognition (and some haters too, but anyone with strong opinions will have those and I've made my peace with that.) Anyway, you know, it's not like I'm universally ignored.

And I didn't post it so people would say, "Aww, we love you Cat!" (although it was very nice of you).

I posted it because I truly believe these threads are tactless and mean. I got mentioned on the "Hottest Ladies of DU" thread, and for half a second, I was actually pleased about it! Then I THOUGHT about it--and I wasn't pleased, for two reasons...

1. It totally reduces me to what I look like, and devalues any intelligent insight I might have added to this board (few and far between, I'm sure, but it must have been in there somewhere!)

2. There are lots of other women, intelligent, progressive, wonderful, lovely, kind, spirited, and yes, BEAUTIFUL women DUers who weren't mentioned at all. My momentary happiness was immediately tainted by the knowledge that someone else was getting their feelings hurt from that thread.

Fuck that, I say. We are all worthy in some way or another. The Right seeks to divide us. Why add negativity from the inside?

I hear ya'll - these threads really are generally something I stay away from.

I don't particularly care, but that doesn't change the fact that some DUers might. I think we should excersise more caution when threads like that one are posted.

They make me uncomfortable when I'm "forgotten"... and they make me uncomfortable to be "singled out" as being more-special than someone else (particularly those who where forgotten).

It's nice to make friends and have friends and to yuck-it-up and be funny... but my online friends know who they are. I don't need to make them feel more special with a public acknowledgment of my feelings toward them... nor do I need that in return.

Arnold is the funniest person on the earth.. One look at his campaign should tell everyone how funny he is.. He is a laugh-a-minute around the house too..The servants laugh at him all the time.. The children laugh at him too..

Go down to the Gun Dungeon and read some of the longer threads. He really seems to like the word "pantload". :)

so I don't really know that many posters and nobody really knows me.

But I come here for myself, to touch base with other like-minded people and not feel so badly about the sorry state of this country. This place gives me hope, that there are people out there that really care and are willing to do something about changing the way things are. Who debate serious issues and laugh about things so we don't plunge into total dispair.
