2. You dont have to study and you can still get great grades
3. Makes for great essay topics
4. Come on, can you make satires of your science material, I can make satire of my history material easily
5. History or precedent is used to make decisions even today
6. You can apply it personally
7. It generally isnt boring
8. There is much interesting readings on history
9. People like a history nerd
10. Its easy to spell
Ok I am a goof.

3. well my plan now is to major in political science
I wanna speechwrite, do research, I do amateur research now, simple shit like proving Kerry isnt bushlite, congressional districts, and non political stuff like baseball stats etc. I would like to maybe minor in writing, I love to write. I wouldnt want to be a professor, heh Ive barely spoken an actual word today, I am so shy.

6. Speak up, John
We need more smart people like you speaking their minds. I've seen your more serious posts here and I know what you are capable of. You need to find a way to transfer that into your non web surfing life.

2. In defense of science, there are lots of science jokes

but you may have to like science to have that sort of weird sense of humor.

History is cool, too, though. :hi: JohnKleeb!

Bio and me are ok, active physics and me get along good, I got an B+ average in that class. I am not a fan of science and I have a weird sense of humor, look at my new avatar for instance heh.

31. A mole is simply a number, just like a dozen, only much larger.
Edited on Sun Aug-08-04 02:58 AM by Endangered Specie
The idea is to express the # of atoms you have in a macroscopic quantity. edit: 6*10^23 I believe.

Dozen = 12
Mole = 602300000000000000000000
Why that number:
The idea is a mole is defined as the number of carbon atoms in a 12gram sample of 100% carbon-12

25. /slams head on desk
HS chemistry was funny because the professor- and I shit you not- liked to blow shit up. He had a glass eye.
And yes, he loved those chem puns...:argh:
Now, my college chem professor was another monster. He was a grumpy bastard who occasionally said something worth a chuckle...but he wasn't nerly as kewl as my HS chem teacher.

-A Jamacian, conservative, very good with the puns.
-An Italian who once threw a desk chair at someone, the class though, was very damn funny.

33. hahah no, he's still alive and kickin'
Funny side story though. One day we went outside to do a "to scale" walk of the universe thru Harvard's campus...and he left his Apple laptop in the lecture hall. When we came back, someone lifted it :( It was really sad.
He got all upset and started crying and yelling in Italian.
But that class was awesome...we got to meet the people who worked onthe Chandra X-ray telescope and scored a bunch of kewl astronomy glossy pictures of distant universes.
OMG, I am SUCH a geek...

5. You are hardly a goof, John. Your reasons are sound
History is important, whether you want to go into law or teaching or just to live your life. Learning where we came from can tell us where we are going. If he ignore the lessons of history, we are doomed to repeat them. Something tells me that George W. Bush* was a very poor history student.:-(

9. Yes but some are silly of course
Yes you paraphrase Santayana, "Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it" now Ive heard he was a conservative but he was right, another
quote by a conservative this one by Sir Edmund Burke is "The only thing nesscary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing" and its true. I act silly but I have a sense of seriousness too though, I prefer to act silly though, its my way.

39. I was not sure of the source of that quote, John, but only knew
that it was true. It is being proven true, once again, by the actions of the current administration. They must have been very poor history students. When Bush* first proposed this war against Iraq, I was horrified for any number of reasons, but remember discussing, with a friend who is a West Point graduate, that Bush* hadn't learned the lessons of Vietnam, since he was proposing a tax cut while preparing to launch a war. My friend reminded me of an even more important lesson of Vietnam, that the government cannot wage a war that doesn't have the full support of the American people. Bush* has just made a mess of this in all possible ways, and the American people are paying the price, both in lives and financially.:-(

There's nothing wrong in acting silly. I always did, myself. It puts people at ease and breaks the tension. I am all in favor of humor.:D

15. John, take it from me...Major in History for perspective...
minor in Political Science and English (clear writing makes an enormous difference in politics). Much of political science is dry, technical and boring. Learn what you need for your career. History, though, is eternally fascinating, and gives you insight and perspective that can really give you an edge. You need to understand the mistake of the past to avoid repeating them.

FWIW-I started college as a Political Science major and changed to history mid-way through my sophomore year. Wish I'd gotten the message earlier.
