I have to go to the doctors tomorrow...
and I don't want to...I have to get a physical and the hepatitis shot because in my major I come in contact with blood quite often. I hate shots, and I hate going to the doctor's office. They always tell me same thing, I'm overweight and need to exercise, as if I don't own a mirror...tell me something I don't know. It's quite a degrading experience going to the doc's.

1. Just went today. It wasn't that bad.
But now I have to go for all the tests that they want so it can't be over with in a day. Good luck.

4. Hamilton gives me the creeps
I don't know why, but it just does. Maybe it's cause I used to live in Ewing.

6. And yet people just keep moving in...
Every day I pass by a new development, property values are outrageous and property tax...forget about it.

I used to live in Trenton right on the Ewing border, but moved out here to get a better high school. I lived in the city, yet it was a very sleepy neighborhood

5. Pre-empt them

Tell them you know all about the weight and exercise issue so you dont have to listen to a lecture and ask to have the shot as soon as possible so you can get it over with an relax a little bit instead of carrying the anxiety through the whole session.

7. Thats not such a bad idea...
I just hate how doctors talk down to you like you are a moran! I major in Athletic Training/Sports Med... so I know a thing or two, especially since I basically conduct physicals for my athletes in pre-season camp.

8. I had to have the hepatitis shot for my job.
I swear to God, it does not hurt very much at all (compared to other
shots). Good luck.

10. thanks for the welcome!
Tetanus shots are Horrible! Thank God I haven't needed one for awhile. Just remember to look away tomorrow when they give you the shot--you won't even notice it.

11. you said it
Tetanus are pretty "uncomfortable" - I go barefoot everywhere so I keep up, even a little ahead on tetanus. Ouch. But better than the alternative - a HECK of a lot more shots!

12. I've never really understood the needlephobia thing

Never had a shot that bothered me or that I worried about. Yeah, sometimes they sting or hurt a bit, but so what ?

Ever tried Apheresis blood donation ? Ahh, a needle in each arm for an hour and a half. I wonder if there is such a thing as needlephilic ...

14. I've only donated blood once...
and it was a major achievement for me! We were doing a blood drive in HS, and I wanted to do my part. It wasn't too bad, once I get the shot I always say that its not too bad. It's the trepidation leading up to it that always gets me worked up.

13. I wish me and my wife and kids could AFFORD a doctor's visit.
we can't.

Be happy you have medical care at all (even if it is a pain).

15. yeah - no kidding
I get mine at county health - about 10 or 15 bucks - way cheaper than a docs office. Not all counties have this service but you might check it out.

16. Maybe you should think about finding another doctor
I personally think you should be comfortable going to your doctor... otherwise you might put off important visits.

I imagine any doctor will try to inspire you to take better care of yourself, but a good doctor will do it in a way that doesn't feel like a "degrading experience".

17. Think of the shot as an insect bite.
It really doesn't hurt any more than that; it's just the THOUGHT of the needle that makes you anxious. Someone gave me that advice when I was a kid; now, many, many shots later, they don't bother me at all. If you think your doctor will be insulting about your weight, you should meet my cardiologist. He actually waits for me to be on the treadmill before he starts preaching at me, so I won't have the breath to say anything! (If you think about it, it's kinda funny.)
