Poll question: Root Out vs. Route Out....You decide!

Never heard of "Route Out" until Bush & Co. started talking about terra-ist huntin'... but maybe I just misunderestimated what folks have been saying all the time.

Y'all set me straight!

1. They actually said that?

There's "Root Out" -- as in, to pull something up by the roots, to uproot, to eradicate (which means "to root out" in Latin).

There's also "Rout", which is mainly a Britishism for a decisive victory.

"Route out?" That would be funny if it wasn't coming from the Office of the Chief Executive of the United States.

4. The term "route out" implies removal, usually to a safer place

As in "The travel agent routed us out of the city during the riots." I have heard it used in a Scientology context, as in someone being "routed out" of the cult. I suppose once you "rooted out" terrorists, you could "route them out" as well but I think you'd be better off arresting them.
