Favorite Prince Philip quote!
Come on, he's got some winners! I mean, we USonians think * has a way with words -- but QEII's husband? My GOD! Sure, he's not as EVIL as the shrub, but he has a way with malapropisms that would make QUAYLE blush!

So -- what's your favorite?

3. When he warned British students in Hong Kong...
...not to stay too long, or they'd get "all slitty-eyed."

Eddie Izzard's bit on Phillip is hysterically funny.

4. Give him a break!
He was in line to be King of Greece, and lost it to a revolution! I mean, you train all your life for a job and have to settle for being stud for some other country's monarch... It's just sad.

6. "you train all your life for a job"
You mean like the Hurricane, before it was supplanted by the vastly superior Spitfire?

EVERY DAY since I first joined DU, I have been WAITING FOR THIS MOMENT! How the mighty have fallen! The Spitfire has sealed your fate!!!!

7. Don't be silly.
"Hurri's" were used throughout the war. The slow production rate on early model Spitfires insured that. And they did a fine job, also. Never the best plane, but a brave one.

Should we downgrade the P-38 Lightning because the P-47 Thunderbolt was superior? Shall we mock the mighty B-17 Flying Fortress because it was outflown by the later B-24 Liberator? Shall we deny the place in history of the Fairey Swordfish because the Grumman Avenger was a much better plane?

8. The P-47 was NOT better than the P-38!!!
The Mustang, sure. But the Thunderbolt never beat down the "fork-tailed devil."

And the B-24 outflew the B-17, sure. But which one could take more fire and still fly?

10. P-47 was...
faster, more manueverable, and better armed. The P-38 had longer range and the extra engine to get home with.

And a Hurri could take more punishment than a Spit and still fly.
But the Hurri was designed in the Mid-1930's and the Spit was designed later... and this was a time of great technological change in aircraft. Later aircraft were either better or didn't get made at all. So of course the later Spitfire was better than the Hurricane. But does this make the Hurricane useless? Or inadequate? If it was so pathetic, why did England make so dang many of them? Because even though it was 2nd best, it was still dang good.
