Are you losing faith in the American people?
I hate to say it, but for the first time in my life, I'm losing faith in the average American citizen. Even with all the lies, misjudgements and scandals, Bush still has a popularity rating in the 40's. Especially troubling to me is the willingness to go along with the erosion of our civil rights. I guess the reason for this post is that I want to be proven wrong, so somebody disagree with me and make me feel better, OK?

2. The problem is so many people
are not paying attention. A classic example is a young woman that works in my building. She is all for women's rights, abortion rights, etc. but doesn't really see what the problem with Bush is. I asked her once who our State Representative was and she couldn't answer me. She said defensively she has better things to do than watch news all the time. So while she and people like her are happily shopping, going out with friends and being totally disengaged from what is happening, the situation continues to worsen. They just have no clue how bad things could get. I'm afraid that there has been a lot of dumbing down in this country.

4. You nailed it, calico1.
People are ignorant, and not only don't they care, they seem to revel in it.

3. America feels less like a home and more like a gigantic retail store
If that is the fault of the American people, then I probably share the blame somehow.

5. This is what happens when an election is STOLEN!
Edited on Wed Aug-11-04 08:27 AM by Paradise
It happens in third-world countries all the time.
We may be the most powerful country in the world
but we are, now, no better than a third-world country.
It will take decades, if not longer, if ever,
for us to be united once again.
Think about it...
Even if Kerry wins, the hatred will just be reversed.
Sorry, I couldn't make you feel better, zanana,
but this is what I believe, how I feel, and it :hurts:

10. I know what you mean.....When the masses elected Ronnie..
...by a landslide, I knew in my heart that 65% percent of the people
I pass by every day were potential Morons and didn't have a clue as
to what was happening in the real world.

8. Yes.
What little I had.

I've always been amazed at how easily Americans are manipulated by advertising, propaganda, and greed. I am not exempting myself from this observation either, I am swayed by these things too. But lately it just seems like people are more like a bunch of cattle than humans.

I don't understand how people can be so fervent about a pResident who has NO credibility, NO plan, NO compassion, and NO qualifications based simply on a shallow, media-driven "impression" that he's "strong" .:wtf:

11. No, I'm not "losing" faith...
I've done lost it already.

My Congresscritter is Steve buyer. He's "Very popular" with most of my neighbours, especially my neighbours that live 120 miles south of me.

WTF? You say? Look up "Gerrymander" in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of Indiana's 4th distdict next to the definition...

Go shop, Eat a pound of bacon, but no bread every day and wonder why you STILL can't lose weight sitting in your Power Chair while you watch "Fair and Balanced" Nooz and HSN and listen to Rush and Hannity...

Not only do I have no faith in my "Fella Murkans", I have very little else but Contempt. it's enough to make one get those Berlitz French records out and study them...

12. apsitively
i think these mopes are going to give the dictator @ least 4 more years. i suspect they'll let him stay in office after that, since he's their war president & will undoubtably keep us @ war until the world gets fed up & crushes us.

14. Sometimes I do feel that way, yes
In particular, in the leadup to the Iraq invasion, I remember listening to a radio show in Las Vegas where the host kept referring to the anti-war protesters as "peaceniks" and "hippies", and was trying to get protestors to call in and explain their position, only to seriously badmouth them if they did. Most of the callers to that show were rabid supporters of the invasion, and several times I heard statements about how it was finally time we got * in office because he'll do what he wants, and not care what the public thinks. I'm still amazed by the sentiment; these people actually are happily giving up any say in what the government does, and complain about people that want to keep their say!

15. Yeah.
Sometimes. A friend's wife, who travels via air a lot for her work, said as long as she's safe, she doesn't care about the intrusions into her privacy (security checks, random bag checks, having CAPPS II in place...although that looks as though it's going through some changes).
And what happens when the government starts taking away more and more of your freedoms? What then?
