Another person soon to be joining the ranks of the brave librarians cadre.
So - I am so very happy for my husband. He just got accepted into grad school. He's gonna be a librarian. Since I think librarians RAWK big time, I couldn't be more happy for him. Just like when he started his comedy writing class, I have already told everyone I know about this, but that wasn't satisfying enough, so I had to shout it out to the internet :)

So, rest assured fine citizens. Another individual committed to your First Amendment rights will be joining the ranks of the book-lovin', library card-totin', "shush, please" crowd.

1. This makes me happy.
Since the only other librarian I know is a book-lovin, library-card totin, "shush please" chick in Michigan who is so devoted to her own personal agenda that she's still pissed at Kerry for voting for Iraq. She's going to vote for Nader or not vote at all.

Janet, if you're reading this, I hope you're happy.

2. Math may be the mother of all science, but library science...
makes all science accessible to others.

3. Is he going to grad school in River Forest?
If that "U of C" is University of Chicago, I bet he is.

8. I graduated from there in 1995 (River Forest) and my husband
went to U of C. He has been unemployed for 2 years and I have been trying to encourage him to go for an MLS but he says its too expensive now. When I went it was about $14,000.00.

10. yeah - student loans!
I don't remember the price offhand, but we weighed the pros and cons, and felt that his interest in library science, his desire to break free from the job he has now, and his need to find the kind of job that can't be outsourced (he's in computers/accounting now) made the cost of the MLS worth it for us. But, it was kind of a tough decision knowingly taking on another student loan. In the end, though, it was a good call, I think.

How was your experience with the college? He liked the people he has talked to thus far.

12. I went nights so I worked during the day.
The school was ok - beautiful campus (like U of C). I was much older than most of the students and I found the course work very hard indeed.
A librarian pal of mine has a relative who went there full time and did it all in one year. Then she got a really good job somewhere and is making good money so the 20k or so will be paid off soon if it isn't already. I hope your husband has the same luck!
