Radiohead fans, ever heard Muse?
I had heard this band's name bandied about but never actually heard them. Got their album Absolution and my lord it's a complete Radiohead clone. I know people said bands like Travis and Coldplay and such were aping Radiohead, but this guys voice is a dead ringer for Tom Yorke. Even much of the guitar sound is straight out of Bends era Radiohead. A little heavier in parts than Radiohead circa The Bends, and much different than Radiohead's last 3 albums.

I'm probably late to the game on this one, but figured I'd throw it out there to see if anyone else had heard this band.

1. Liked the first album, but the second...

The lyrics read like a fundie "rapture" tract... of course, it's ambiguous enough that it's a little hard to tell exactly what he's on about, but with track names like "Dying Thoughts of an Athiest" I'd say there's something of a Christian agenda at work.

But you're right, they do seem to be echoing Radiohead's more "crescendo" moments.

Post #999 for me... guess that's 666 upside down. Oooh, creepy. Call DaVinci, get the code...

2. Wow, I hadn't noticed the lyrics at all....
I did notice that song title but it didn't even cross my mind that they would be outwardly xtian. I guess I don't think of the english being that way at all.

I'm still not even sure how I feel about it overall, but was just struck by the blatantness of it all when I listened to it for the first time this morning.

4. Well lots of bands write anti-Christian stuff
In some cases quite bigoted stuff about Christians too. What's wrong with going the other way?

5. If done well. Mike Scott of the Waterboys has it down pat.
Muse are a little too prog for me.

6. If it's subtle I don't care at all.....
I can think of plenty of spiritual bands I like such as U2, The Waterboys, and some others (strangely enough mostly UK bands). And I didn't notice anything overt in Muse's lyrics.

But personally speaking if someone does have a problem with such lyrics (I don't) then it's no different with having a problem with finding out bands are republicans or sexist or racist or whatever. If the band chooses to adhere to an ideology or adopt a belief system that someone disagrees with, and chooses to sing about it, then that's perfectly within reason for that person.

3. Brilliant band!
First saw them in Chemsford when they were still unsigned played to a grand total of 14 people. Next time I saw them they were headlining the second stage at V2001!

They get compared to Radiohead mainly because the singer sounds exactly like Thom Yorke but their music really has progressed into something a lot more rocky and grandiose than Radiohead.
