Dratted CAT Has Learned To Open Doors!
Chamisa, who weas clever enough to get her furry self rescued as a 5 week old kitten, has now figured out doorknobs!

We have a kitten room (our guest room) where we put her when we are working with cat-unfriendly stuff such as cleaning solutions, sewing pins, etc. Being a kitten, she's into EVERYTHING!

The Missus put her in her room so she could wrap the presents we're sending to the grandkids. I come down the hall to find Chamisa in the hallway and her door open a crack. Oops! cat leakage! Replace cat, close door. The Missus continues to wrap. Suddenly, there's Chamisa. In the middle of the project. Replace cat. Close door. I come down the hall to find Chamisa's door opwn a crack and the cat, standing on the daybed at doorknob level! She jumps to the floor and OUT!

Clever little beast! We'll have to either move the daybed, figure out how to lock the door from the hallway or move her stuff into the bathroom (where she can't reach the knob).

2. that's scary, why we opted for round knobs
my little red cat would be flipping open doors left and right already.

4. And yet it took our four
well over two hours to figure out how to use the door into the cat run we built, and at that we had to put a piece of paper over the (translucent) swinging door or they wouldn't push on it, they just stared through it as if it were another window! Guess that's the thing with cats, though. The thing you want them to figure out presents an insoluble mystery to them; the thing you don't want them to figure out is the first thing they master.

6. LOL
Truer words were never spoken:

Hey, how about some photos of the little door opener?

7. Wow, kitty opens door knobs
My kittygirl likes to open the bifolds just because she can. You close it, she opens it up again, over and over and over. She doesn't want to go into the closet or next room; she just wants to open the damn door.

8. Wow. Guess you'll have to put something in front of the door to
prevent it from opening (if it swings OUT from her room).

9. ha ha haaaaa! LOL!!
That is so cute! Irritating I'm sure, but cute. Smart Chamisa....my cat has a similar trick where she bats at the edge of the screen door and slides it open...and careful observation of her has led me to the conclusion that she is left-handed!

10. Good for her!
Darwin in action. Encourage her to evolve opposable thumbs. Cats will take over the world.

I knew a cat who could open doors. He would stand on his hind legs, stretch up and hook both paws around the knob. He'd paw at it a little and the knob would turn and he'd push the door open. I will add that it was loose Victorian era hardware on easily swinging doors. Tightening the knob and latch assembly solved the problem.

13. Thunder (now in Kitty Heaven) used to
put his paws up on the tops of lower cabinet doors in the bathroom and kitchen and then walk backwards on his hind legs, pulling the cabinet door open with his top paws.

Then he'd check out what was inside, or take a nap in there or whatever.

They are indeed clever little beasts!!!!
