Ok....Indiana DUer check in...lots of us may be flooded out

I'm flooded out of my basement, two non-DUer friends have been flooded out of their basements, and now I just found out that my Best Sis, Hipiechick, here in town is flooded out too.

Voltaire? Salin? IG? Sinookas? Jitterbug? Ignatious? And everyone else?

I feel bad for all you folks.....not a fun thing to deal with. Glad to see your computer hasn't been wiped out yet@

a tiny bit of a mound for the first floor with the basement as a full second floor. I live downstairs and mom and our roommate live upstairs.

Currently we ALL live upstairs...along with my computers, of course. They were the first things up the stairs.

We had some flooded streets in the neighborhood, and most of the retention ponds in the subdivisions were close to overflowing, but we didn't have any flooding at our house.

We did see alot of flooded streets (especially 96th) on our way home after a brief excursion out in the monsoons.

Saw on the news last night that some areas around 71st and New Augusta on the NW side were hit really hard, as well as the Speedway area. Hope everyone is doing OK.

It isn't here in South Bend.

It's been raining for a week straight and the ground can't absorb anymore.

Little known fact about Indy: it was built on a swamp.

Now I know why they didn't want to build the capitol here.

Hippiechick says her car was up to her hood in water this morning, but that most of her stuff is ok. Hopefully she'll be able to report in tomorrow and let us know what's up on her end.

Sounds like all over - not just the "usual".

I've lived in Indiana all my life (35 yrs) and this is THE WORST flooding I've ever seen. THE WORST.

But Hippiechick lives on the far northside and my other flooded friends live near 52 and college, so it's all over. Pick a low spot and it's probably flooded right now.

for some reason, you're the first person I thought of when I saw the floods on the news...

from standing in 4-6 inches of cold water all day, but I'm one of the lucky ones. I've lost some stuff, but nothing that can't be replaced. The most expensive thing I'll probably have to do is get a new couch and stereo speakers. I'm lucky. A friend of mine lost basically everything this last week.

It's raining right now in New York but nothing bad!

Within a month of us buying this house we had a flooded basement. They said it was a "100 year event". Well, here we are now, five years later and THEY LIED!!!!

I'm gonna throw out carpeting as soon as we get enough water hoovered out of it to get it carried out. I've got jets of water shooting out of my walls and the back of the sofa and the futon are both soaked. Have i mentioned the fact that the cat has decided he LIKES water and is playing in it and tracking it all over the house?

This all follows on the heels of having to cancel the Labor Day Parade and picnic today due to the fact that we'd have had to wear diving suits to march. Poor Kevsand, as the County AFL-CIO President had to stand in the rain with the media all morning talking about what a bummer it is...

I stood under an awning drinking coffee with the Laborers and answering the cell phone. I came home to deal with the great flood wired on caffine and pissed at the world. Kevsand is just tired and cranky...

Gawd, I wish I could fire up a-- well, never mind--that would be illegal and I can just see John AshKKKroft and his minions kicking in my front door while the basement is flooded. They'd make some snarky comment about my housekeeping and that'd be all she wrote... Laura departs for Gitmo for all eternity and the basement stays flooded.

That which does not kill us only makes us stronger--eh?

Here's hoping that you all get high and dry soon. I know you have an awful lot of irreplacable stuff down there, so I hope you've managed to get most of it safe.

I'll always remember that room. It's where the first DU Gathering was held...or at least one of the first. I can't remember if we were first or not right now.

The shrine to DU gatherings! Right here in my soggy basement... Thanks for the good wishes, Keph. It'll be ok, I'm sure of it. We got the kidlett off to school this am and now the fun and games really begin. I got a brand new wet-dry vac yesterday and now I get to start sucking up the water out of the carpets. We already have a "funk" started down here and I can tell that the rugs are trashed. I guess that means I finally get new carpet down here...

It looks like the drain system is keeping up a bit better today and as long as we get no more rain for a day or two we may start to get it under control. I have got to say, I'm just not ready to strap water wings on and deal with it yet this AM. It may take a couple more Diet Cokes before I am. Whenever I do manage to get enough energy to face it, my guess is it will still be there waiting on me--somehow that shit never cleans itself up. :(

Good luck with your clean up--I do hope you guys are faring ok. Take comfort in the fact that misery can indeed be shared! :)

i`ve sat here for the last three weeks watching the rain go around this area and everything is pretty burned up here. it rained here alittle bit for the last few days but nothing like south of here .i guess the rain gods just don`t like my part of northern il.....

... we're not too affected here north of town, but it's been raining cats and dogs all day.

Then again, Terre Haute means "high land."

Although I'm pretty sure Terre Haute means "stinky hell-hole"...at least that's my translation of it :P

A little bit of water in the basement but that's about it. Not bad for the 6-10 inches of rain in the past two days.

I think I'll get new kitchen tile out of my landlord, and my car is being towed as we speak to a repair shop. My insurance guy was overloaded this morning, as you can imagine.

Thankfully, I had a neighbor's sofa to crash on, and nothing of mine was really damaged in the apt ...it stayed to the end of the building that was kitchen/dining area.

But what a miserable and stressful way to spend a holiday weekend.

Glad you are ok, Lil Bro .... PM me, I might camp at Janie's again tonight just for cameraderie & won't have my phone.
