Question about The Andy Griffith Show...
Who the heck is Aunt Bea? Is she Andy's aunt, or Andy's sister, or Andy's sister-in-law?

Anybody know the answer to this mystery?

1. Ant Bea
was a queen but she wasn't laying any eggs by the time the series got started.
She pretty much ruled the nest in Mayberry.

2. HIS AUNT
They are related by blood. One episode their relative, Seth Taylor was credited for saving Mayberry fro financial ruin. They later found out he was sort of a crook but they sorted it all out and honored him anyway.

3. Supposed to be Andy's aunt...
For purposes of the show, I think Andy was supposed to be in his late 20s or early 30s (hence the young kid) and Aunt Bee was to represent the older generation, late 50s or 60s, I'd say.

Word was that the actress who played Bee (Fracis Bavier) was a TOTAL diva bitch, despite her warm, passive-aggressive character.

4. It's actually spelled Aunt Bee.
Don't know why since Beatrice is with an A.

6. OK, glad I got that cleared up...
an old episode was on earlier and I realized I'd never known how Aunt Bee fit into the family tree.

Sad to hear she might have been a diva, she seemed so sweet (I guess that's why they call it "acting").

5. She was also a high school basketball player in the '20's for the show.
But she couldn't throw a baseball. Go figure.

FYI, Barney was Andy's cousin.
