Tivo users question...I have basic cable with some digital channels running through a cable box. I have been reading the installation instructions and it seems if I split the cable from the cable box I should be able to record one show while watching another. In the instructions it seems to say that I will only be able to record one channel while watching another on the basic channels, not the upper register digitals like BBC America dn the HBO channels. True or false? Any installation tips from current TIVO users?
The cable tuners in TiVos only handle the standard "basic" cable frequencies; they aren't equipped for digital cable mainly because until last month there was no standard for digital cable boxes.
There are plans for a HDTiVo that will use the OpenCable standard for digital boxes, but they're a ways off.
But trust me: after a while you aren't going to want to watch anything live ever again. Just let the TiVo record it all and watch it on demand.
There are plenty of FAQ's available at the TiVo community forums at tivocommunity.com.
