anyone know about auto glass prices? . . .

I woke up this morning to find that someone had smashed in the driver's side window of my car . . . anyone have any idea what kind of money I'm looking at to get it replaced? . . . it's a 1990 GEO Prizm . . . thanx . . .

on my insurance and the invoice for the guy who came out to fix it (they often do that these days) was close to $300.

I'd doubt that the car would affect it more than a few tens of dollars either way except perhaps for some luxury/high-end cars.

Some jackasses shot out a bunch of car windows in my neighborhood a month ago, and I had to pay a $100 deductible. Mine was a sliding door window on a Kia Sedona, which is much bigger than the one you need to replace, though.

get glass coverage with your insurance. It only costs a few bucks per year. Its the best part of the policy.

If you got some time call around if your in a bigger metropolis. The prices can vary widely from one vendor to the next. Just because one is more expensive doesn't mean they are better either. There is enough competition to keep most honest but calling around to find the one you are most comfortable with is the best thing. If it were me (as a mechanic)I would go to a mechanics shop I most trusted and ask them for a reference for a good glass shop. They will usually know best.

Side windows on Cars are are a little more tricky. Getting it done correctly is a little more important than the price. If something is screwed up by the glass guy it could cost you more in the long run.

a few years ago. It was around $225. The odd thing is the company discounted the price because I was paying for and they would not have to deal with an insurance company and the delays getting their money. Kinda a cash discount I suppose.

broken. Since it was a 91 I didn't have anything but liability coverage on it. I called around and found a window from a junk yard, it cost me $45, and you can put it in yourself or I paid some body shop $50 to put it in. Its a pain in the ass, but worth the money not to have to call the insurance and risk your rates going up if your car had more than liability coverage.

drove a geo prism? It's a '95 and a decided step down from the luxury cars I used to drive. Oh well, my kids still love me though. :-) Sorry I can't help with the estimate. Good luck, however.

tell the shops you're paying for it yourself and they'll usually find a "coupon" for you. I replaced the windshield on the truck I used to drive and never paid more than $75. The whole pricing thing is a scam to get money out of insurance companies. Consumer Reports did a report on it a couple of years ago.
