1. "Where the Buffalo Roam" is the same way.
The best thing about Fear and Loathing, IMO, is the way Johnny Depp looks and sounds like Bill Murry in Buffalo. It's spooky.

11. Yeah. That's the thing about Depp.
Personally, I think he's insane in a way. To be able to completely become a character like that . . . isn't right. I think he may be a little insane. All great actors are, I suppose.

And when I say insane, I mean that in a good way.

17. True enough.
But the movies were, what, twenty years apart? For Depp to make me think of Murray was impressive to me. You're probably right, though: they both did a nice job.

2. It's not that intense nowadays...
at least not the typical batch one comes across. I quit that stuff about 3 years ago after taking a ridiculous amount over the course of 2 years, it will mindfuck you.

3. Oh that's like nothing.
There's a short film from I think the late eighties named Slipknot that freaked me out of never taking acid. At least the guys in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas come back.

4. The movie was good
The book was much better. Read it about 20 years ago and I never laughed so hard in my life. ROTFLMAO

5. So, wait... You've never seen "Requium for a Dream"?
Requium is basicaly designed to keep people off drugs. It's a great movie; but I guess nothing beats the writing of Hunter S. Thompson...

6. Kinda makes me want to do some more
Exploring the limits of what is currently considered reality has always held a certain fascination for me.

Psyconauts, I believe, is the term.

What I wouldn't give to experience another glorious peyote enhanced day...

Hollywood could never do it justice.

10. I'm not endorsing acid use
but you gotta realize that these guys were taking HUGE doses of the stuff as well as mixing it with all kinds of other drugs.

I haven't done acid in over eight years and would try and steer most people clear of it unless I was sure they could handle it, but I never had a bad experience with it once, and remember my experimentation with it quite fondly. It's definitely not for everyone though.

13. It's certainly a cautionary tale
Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 11:13 PM by Hardhead
But acid isn't quite so fraught with symbolic meaning for people who aren't Hunter Thompson.
