MCGREEVEY PROPOSES TAX CUT FOR PEOPLE LIVING TWO LIVES
New Jersey Governor James McGreevey today announced an aggressive legislative agenda for his remaining months in office, including a substantial tax cut for those New Jersey taxpayers living two lives.

“Those who are living two lives are racking up twice the expenses of those living only one,” Mr. McGreevey said. “This tax cut would recognize that reality.”

Mr. McGreevey surprised many in the state by pushing forward with a host of new initiatives, including a proposal that would change the state song to “Copacabana.”

In addition to offering tax rebates to owners of Vespa scooters and Speedo swimsuits, Mr. McGreevey blocked a proposal to build a new arena for the New Jersey Nets, calling their uniforms “hideous.”

1. as funny as the lead is, the third and fourth paragraphs devolve the piece
into just another stale rehash of stereotypes. Ignorance and stupidity are everywhere.

3. I heard some of that crap on the radio yesterday
They were playing his speech and inserting juvenile remarks. Little wonder that when they ID'd the station it was a "Clear Channel." I heard this at the grocery store so I wrote the store and told them I will not shop there any longer--as long as they have that station on.

5. Andy@borowitzreport.com
I don't care if it's parody, satire ... I'm not amused by Mr. Borowitz's piece; and, I've emailed my comments with a 'cc' to the hrc.org. I can only imagine what his 1960s version might have been.

6. The more I think about this
...the more pissed off I get. I have friends who have struggled with double lives, with coming out after being married and having families, and it's no laughing matter. Some didn't realize they were gay when they married, some thought getting married would "cure" them, some thought they could live double lives and later found they couldn't. The lucky ones have decent relationships with their former spouses and ample time with their children, but many are not nearly so lucky.

From what I've heard, the most touching thing about Gov. McGreevey's press conference was that his wife and parents were standing behind him, showing support. I hope their support continues, because this is going to be a very trying time for all of them.

8. Indeed, Pagerbear.
I had a friend back home in this situation. He married when his orientation was so deeply buried he didn't know it. He was a fundamentalist christian. When he finally had had enough, his wife sued him for custody and won on the basis that he would be a horrible influence. He was awarded one one-hour chaperoned visit per week with his children. His best friend of thirty years disowned him.

McGreevy is blessed, deeply blessed.

This friend's story was written into a show. The song was called "Sweet Dreams," slow, sad and sweet, and it's freaking heart-breaking.

no, I won't be living with you
but I'll see you every Friday
you'll have lots of fun -- you'll see --
with a chaperone and me
and everything will be all right
everything will be all right

7. really offensive
every bit as bad as an "N-word" joke.

sent them the following email:

"I find this article to be extremely offensive & abusive. "stereotype" joke pieces aren't funny, they're cruel, & they perpetuate intolerance.

You need to find a new schtick, this '50s filth needs to be left back there with McCarthy."
