Reality check: Am I becoming as sick as GWB?
So, I spaced and left the trash inside before going out of town for two days, with apple cores and grapefruit peels among the newspapers. My return greeting was a kitchen full of tiny fruit flies--everywhere! Yuck.

So, I get rid of the trash and borrow my neighbor's new gatchet: The Sharper Image 'Insector-- the bug collector,' a domed blue light with fan that attracks and then permanently traps flying insects, which are caught down in the bottom removable tray.

So, here's my dilemna. I'm fascinated with how well this sucker works and how many accumulating dead and live little pests are trapped below the "peaceful" blue light with the cool fan blowing. So, now, I haven't strapped any firecrackers to frogs, but I'm feeling a little guilty at the glee I am experiencing with this bug collector device! While I guess I will never be a good prospect to convert to Hinduism, the wider question is-- am I destined to become a sadistic Republican (and if so, can someone do an intervention)?

The only thing I can say in my defense is that the cool fan blowing over the blue light is sort of peaceful....

Fruit flies are hard to get rid of. I feel your pain.

3. It is pretty cool, I must admit....
It supposedly works well on mosquitos too, but I haven't tried it outside.

4. Torture all the insects you want. Even the frogs and fish are ok
It's not like when he and Cheney started strangling puppies and kittens. That's where I draw the line, at lifeforms capable of growing hair.

5. As far as I can tell...
Insects are as close to machines as a living being can get. Most of them die violently as it is, and this does not sound to be as violent as a bug zapper.

Also, not ONE of them asked your permission to enter your home, and you are allowed to shoot human home invaders dead, so I cannot see any ethical dilemma here, though all of my Jain friends certainly would.

7. Those are sugar ants - at least that's what I call them
Try sprinkling some cayenne pepper where they enter the house. That should stop 'em.

8. except I can't find where the hell they're coming in!
I've looked everywhere I can. Can't find 'em outside, can't find em inside (where they're coming in) I only see 'em on my kitchen counter.

Blech!

I've heard the cayenne pepper thing - that really works, huh?

11. Yes it works for me
just sprinkle some by windowsills & doorway... that should solve it unless you have some other openings they could be coming in through.

9. I used to get those in my car when I lived in the South-- sort of seasonal
infestation.... I think they sell little cannisters that attract them and either trap or poison them, (I can't remember which). I remember buying them in grocery store "pest" section.
